Blue Jays - Rebuilt
Glad to be here, my name is John, one of the newer members of the community, and of OOTP.
![]() It has been about a week now since i picked up OOTP 14 and being a player of the hockey simulation EHM (eastside hockey manager), i have pretty good experience with simulation type games. I am becoming increasingly interested in this franchise and have decided to share with you guys, if you dont like it, just clickity click that back button or hell just smack backspace. Anywasy, without further ado, i present my franchise, the Toronto Blue Jays. This is the story of my franchise so far... When hired on as general manager, Alexander Anthopolous had been assigned the task of turning the Jays into a playoff contender for seasons to come. And after his huge offseason acquisitions (R.A. Dickey, Melky Cabrera, Mark Beuhrle, Jose Reyes, to name a few) there were again extremely high hopes north of the border, and rightfully so. Only, things didn't go according to plan... Buck Martinez: In what many called the Blue Jays best chance to do some damage in the American League East, the Blue Jays faltered to the task, ending the year with a paltry 72-90 record. With a team average of only .250, the Blue Jays couldn't put together a run of more than 4 games won in a row. The only exciting part about the 2013-2014 season for the Jays, was the emergence of a few rookies nearing the end of the season. 19 year old Danry Vasquez, acquired from Detroit just before the Trade Deadline along with Bruce Rondon, for veteran closer Darren Oliver, was called up from Rookie League BLUEFIELD, and proceeded to help the team win some tight games, while hitting .260 with 3 Home Runs and 15 RBI, finishing his 84 AB in 21 games with a 0.4 WAR. Along with Vasquez, was SS Ryan Goins who was recalled from AAA Buffalo, who in 10 games with the big club hit .280 with 1 home run and 8 RBI. The Season was not a success as you could imagine, and John Gibbons was promptly fired as Manager, along with Demarlo Hale, Chad Mottola, and Pete Walker. (To be replaced with Terry Bell at Manager, Bo Porter at Bench Coach, Walt Weiss as pitching coach and Gregg Ritchie as hitting coach.) Alex Anthopolous has had to, once again, completely revamp the Blue Jays roster. Shipping out nearly all the new acquisitions, and gaining extremely valuable players and prospects in the process. More to come... Last edited by boutlegger; 06-08-2013 at 01:28 AM. Reason: Yes, I hired Walt Weiss as pitching coach... Don't hate me yet. |

Pat Tabler: Some of the trades that have taken place in the last few months, blockbusters even I guess I would say, have included shipping R.A. Dickey and Jose Reyes to the LA Dodgers, for prized prospects, Yasiel Puig, Hyun-Jin-Ryu, and Paco Rodriguez. The Dodgers, at the time were in the middle of a pennant race. Andrew Cashner was added from San Diego for grizzled veteran catcher Henry Blanco.
Buck: Also gone was Mark Beuhrle, who requested a trade early on in the season. Getting shipped to the Indians for prospect Francisco Lindor. In the 2013 first year player draft, Along with last years top pick D.J. Davis, the Blue Jays picked Andy McGuire, Shortstop, 7th overall. He has since been assigned to Rookie League Bluefield, and been attracting attention along with many other Blue Jays prospects. (Anthony Alford, 2013 sixth round pick Will Craig, Marcus Stroman, Richard Urena, Roberto Osuna and 2013 second rounder Dan Slania.) Going forward now, the Jays have entrusted Alex to institute a winning attitude in Toronto. He will be given no more margin for error, as his GM Score the past season was 1. Yes, 1. (Keep in mind this is first season ever played, the upcoming is my second.) Pat: In The 2013-2014 offseason, the Jays were looking to improve on a few positions, pitching being one, since the Jays staff pitched to a ERA of 4.80 last year. They have given the top reign to new acquisition Hyun-Jin Ryu, with the returning Brandon Morrow in the number 2 spot. Andrew Cashner moves from the Pen to take the third spot. While Cecil takes the 4th. The fifth spot however, is where it has got a little interesting for Toronto. Back to the studio for you Jamie. Jamie Campbell: Thanks Pat, Here with Greg Zaun and, yes Pat is right, The fifth spot of the Rotation, belongs to new signee Johan Santana. Who signed a 1 year contract with a 2nd year team option in the offseason. Santana, who had not played the past 2013-2014 season due to an Achilles Injury, has since flourished in a lower role. Greg Zaun: More to come soon with the Jays on Sportsnet. Last edited by boutlegger; 06-08-2013 at 01:20 AM. |
