Still confused on league totals and modifiers, please help

I've had the last 6 or 7 versions of OOTP but I am still confused about league totals and modifiers as well as player creation modifiers. Still don't understand what everything does and this hurts me when trying to create a fictional league.

What I am attempting to do is to create a league with similar rules and totals to the actual MLB in say, 1923, but with a shorter schedule,a nd then change the league over time to my liking.

So after I put in the totals and modifiers that are the same as 1923, what would I have to do in each future season to change the league as I see fit.

Also, what PCM's do I put in?

Very confused on this, which has hampered me many times in trying to create and run an ever-changing fictional league.

Would really appreciate any help!!!!!!

Part of the problem you face is that league totals simply allow OOTP to maintain somewhat the rate of occurrence of statistical output of the year in question. The available talent pool may or may not be the same as the real life players. It's still the best starting point.

You ask what you should do in the future. Only you can answer that because we cant read your mind. Another problem is that a shorter season may affect rest and injuries in such a way as to affect league totals. Put that aside for a moment.

I'm a little confused because you don't actually state what you want other than 1923, with shorter schedule and that you will make unspecified changes going forward. Are you going to have player development on? A draft, free agency, financials, full minors, a reserve roster, feeder leagues, international players, coaches and scouts, player morale, league evolution. Sorry but that's a lot of guesswork.

As for PCM's use the game default settings unless you have a really good reason not to.

Not sure this is helpful and no criticism intended.

Thanks, maybe I should do a better job of explaining myself.

To rephrase, maybe what I mean to ask is how should I adjust my league totals, modifiers and PCMs if I am trying to replicate a style of baseball in a specific year.

Then, going forward, how will changing totals and modifiers in either direction effect the statistics of that league?

Basically, what exactly is the difference between the totals and modifiers and what do they do? Also what exactly do PCMs do, how do they effect my league?

EDIT: I think I know what I'm doing now. Tell me if I'm wrong...

1. To change the stats output of a fictional league I can just adjust the modifiers and leave the totals be.
2. Adjusting PCMs will adjust a player's ratings when he is created, but will not effect the statistical output across the league.

But now I'm confused as to what will happen if I check either "Automatically adjust league totals modifiers for accuracy" or "Automatically control in-game engine".

Also, how do I make sure minor leagues have appropriate stats? Do I just use the same modifiers as my major league?
