A trading trick I learned...
Something I have found that has helped me greatly is that I go to the active player list to find good prospects and established players. When I sort through and find one I like, I offer to trade and use the 'make this work now' option. That'll tell you who you'd have to give up in order to land this player. Sometimes you might have to add a player from your team first, then check because it might take more than one sometimes. Then I just play around trying various combinations until I find the right trade.
Now here's the best part. Once you get the team to agree, try adding more players from his team. Sometimes I'll get him to throw in five star prospects that I will then parlay into more trades. Just thought I'd share this with you guys. I'm certain most know this, but I'm sure some don't. |

I agree, it's best to get a trade to work and then tweak it. E.g. get the team to agree to trade their catcher for your closer and a top prospect. Once they have agreed, you can add a player from their team or swap your top prospect for a lesser player and the trade may still work.
This is not, IMHO, a bug. It's true in real life, as well -- often once someone has agreed to a trade, the hard part is over and tweaking is more likely to work than before there is an initial agreement. It's human nature. |

Another good one is find a teams weakness and trade with them if you have extra players at that position.
I had a solid 3B (65/65) but in the draft picked up a 78/78. My team has been lacking starting pitching so I found a team that had a weakness at 3B and no weakness at starting pitching. I got them to trade me a 60/60 Sp and a 20/75 MR. On the trade screen the "advice" blurb said the other GM would never agree to this as it was a rip off. The other team was not happy to make the trade but did anyways as they really needed that 3B and were good at pitcher. When you go to make a trade try to exploit other teams needs bc they will be more willing to get that last piece to there puzzle and are more willing to pay a premium for it. |

This can definately be exploited going for player on the Trading Block.
I'll onlt go for guys there who have a year remaining oin their contract ... once you agree the trade (normally for next to nothing) you can really take them to the cleaners ![]() Doesn't always work but when it does .. WOW

it doesn't work as well in 2013 as it did in 2012, but still works for the most part.

Tc66tc makes a great point. I have engineered complete ripoff trades by carefully matching what I offer to the other teams's needs. I can often get a 5 star stud for a collection of 2 and 3 star guys that would never make my team. You know the three dimes for a quarter analogy? Try four dimes for a dollar!
Here's another trick: Once you have the trade worked out, ask for more. I find that in those four dimes for a dollar trade, I can often wheedle a quarter or a dime player out of them at no additional cost, or for a nickel. Even if it's a player I don't want, he's there in the minors when I next need to make a trade. Quote:

I know of another one. When you are trying to use "make it work" but the players the other team wants are too good, hit never mind, then replace the player you are trading for with a poor player. A list of players should show up in "make it work" but the players you can offer will be much worse. Select a player to add, switch out the poor player with the original player you were trading for and repeat. It's a good way to offer a lot of players in one trade. I've traded for quality players for 8/9 low potential guys several times.
