Stars vs ratings & rust

Obviously way too late to suggest stuff for OOTP14 but it's a general OOTP thing really and obviously this part of the forums will be popping today.

1 - what is the relationship between stars and ratings? What do stars actually measure that the sum of the ratings do not? I'm sure I've seen players who have superb ratings with 1 or 1.5 stars, although rarely if ever the other way around.

2 - I remember hearing about rust. How if you don't pitch or play a guy for a while, he gets rusty and will not be as good when you do play him. Came up primarily in spring training discussions. Anyway, why isn't there a way to see the level of a players rust? I can for fatigue, so why not rust? Especially since I have no way of knowing how OOTP evaluates rust (3 days of non use, 7 days?)

Anyway, wanted to hear others thoughts if they have em

as for as rust goes check out this post by snepp, basically rust only occurs with long injuries and off-season, not sitting the bench for 1 week or two.

Thank you, precisely what I'm looking for...although I have noticed that I can rarely buy a pinch hit and was wondering if it was related to this

I do not believe pinch hitting has any correlation to rust and/or not playing regular.
