Why it's called the World Series

To answer a question I've seen bouncing around for decades:

I don't know why they dubbed it the World Series in 1903, I've heard that it was named for a newspaper called "The World" or possibly they were just thinking big back then.

It deserves to be called the World Series now. this is the major leagues. the best players from all over the world come to compete against the best players from all over the world. the world championship team had players from the Untied States, the Dominican Republic, Japan, Cuba, Aruba and Venezuela.

They competed against players from Australia, China, Canada, Mexico, Korea, the Antilles, Nicaragua and Panama along with the above named countries.

They didn't come to play in the United States, they came to play in the MAJORS.

A team of the best players in the world beat the other teams of best players in the world.

That's why it's the World Series.

Makes sense.

I see by your Swallows logo though, that you're an *** fan, as am I.

It'd sure be nice to have a world series where the MLB and *** winners play each other. I'd pay to see Boston play whoever wins the Nippon Series, Yomiuri or Rakuten, in a meaningful series.

Boston would have an unfair advantage tho, because MLB teams are free to stock their team with the best players from all over the world while the *** team would be limited to only 4 players from beyond their borders.

I do hope someday that the majors expand beyond the United States and Canada.

Probably because in 1903 all the best players in the world were American so by default the MLB Champion would be the best team in the World....
