Technical Question re: Usage/License

Nobody's been able to answer this for me, so I came here.

One of the great things about EHM 2005 and 2007 is that I found I've been able to remote desktop in to my desktop machine from my laptop (actually from 2 laptops, depending on which one is avalable/working) and continue progress on my saves and games on my desktop machine despite not sitting right at the desktop. I also only need to download mods/updates/graphics/etc once, and can edit the EHM DB's once.

I also get the added benefit of being able to play these games from my* tablet* by remoting in (which works to varying degrees from game to game given screen size and touch interface, but it *does* work and can be awesome).

I know from experience some games (Front Office Football's series, for one) block this ability because they somehow consider it "cheating".

If I plop down money for the pre-order of FHM, will I be able to remote desktop in to use it, or is that ability blocked and seen as cheating? Because that's a big deal to me at this point...

I'm not official, but I seem to think people have mentioned doing this with OOTP. I don't see how this game would be any different. Clearly if the devs need to prove me wrong, they can.

Remote desktop software should work with anything. It's essentially loading the game like normal on your host PC - all the software does is to relay the screen display and the keyboard/mouse commands via the internet/LAN.

There's apparently a way to detect it though, I'm guessing it checks to see an active RDP port or something upon loading. Like I said, I know Front Office Football and The College Years both could detect if I was in remote desktop mode and would give me a popup window specifically stating that running the game in this mode was not allowed under the license because they saw it as cheating and bypassing the license limitations. It aggravated me a lot.

I see someone over on TBL says they've run it over TeamViewer, which is a good sign and should be similar to the app I choose to run.

Let me point Andreas to this thread and see what he has to say, since I'm not certain that there's anything that would prevent this from working. Logically, I would think you'd be fine - you're still ultimately playing the game on the computer you licensed it on, and it shouldn't matter if you're sitting in front of it, standing on the other side of the room poking the keyboard with a 10' pole, or logging into it remotely. But maybe there's something in the licensing system I don't know about.

You will be 100% fine. Programs like RealVNC or other remotes do not create another copy of the software but rather (as another user pointed out) just transmit the input/outputs from your location to your home PC. You are not making/running another copy of the software and that's the bottom line.

Pre-order or not, you can do what you are asking...

Confirmed by Andreas, you should be OK, neither FHM nor eSellerate should be doing anything that can detect if you're actually at the computer or controlling it remotely.

Not even the OS can detect that...

It's actually very simple. All the program has to do is check for the existence of a remote session.

Detecting the Remote Desktop Services environment (Windows)
Isn't that only applicable if you are using RDS? There are no logged session when using RealVNC I believe...the "host" has no clue you are remote...

This is a good point. I often forget there is no "session" saved like with Remote Desktop Protocol because solutions like Splashtop and TeamViewer literally just take control over the already-active session. And I honestly forget if I was using built-in Windows RDP or Splashtop last time I tried to load FoF remotely.

Regardless, sounds like good news. Thanks. *thumbs up*

NP...I might be wrong with other software but at least for RealVNC, which I've been using for about 5 years now, I have never once seen any warnings or alerts regarding TOS or copyright issuse. That goes for OS, MS, Steam games, etc...
