Strange Non-Signings

Thus far the following players are not being re-signed by their teams (team has declared they will not be signing the player):

Mike Smith
Alex Pietrangelo
Niklas Backstrom
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Stephen Weiss
Jonathan Bernier

I'm not that deep into the sim as I've been tinkering with things, but I'd imagine that most of those players would be re-signed by their teams.

Not a major issue, just reporting it for documenting purposes.

Well, I just started a league with the Panthers and Weiss wants $3.8 mil from the team so it could just be a money issue. A lot of good players want money that their team just can't/won't provide.

Guys like Bernier and Pietrangelo are an error. Those guys are RFA and they should still be protected by those teams as RFA even if they cannot come to terms on a deal. I have been unable to make through an NHL season so far due to crashes, but if they are UFA there is something wrong.

Guys like Weiss and Smith are UFA so it might just be a refusal to re-sign or GM decision. Not bad.

I don't think it's so much that they are going UFA. The message I'm getting from my own RFA's is that they will wait for an offer sheet from another team (despite offering them their term and their dollar value). Haven't come close to finishing the season yet so I guess I won't find out if they went UFA or not for awhile.

I've seen this issue as well, though for me the thing is more that they're announcing they won't be re-signing with their team a handful of games into the season. I don't think any player would ever say that in the media, nor would they declare that a single turned-down offer would end negotiations, especially so far from the trade deadline and/or off-season.
