Did you install the game after you downloaded? Dbl click on the file that was downloaded?
Did you download the Mac version? It would help get your problem solved if you would include some details as to what steps you have taken so far. |

Same here actually......I downloaded the game then clicked on the installer and tries to load for like a second and then disappears. I'm not sure what else to try.

Why is there virtually nothing in the technical support forum, no matter what filters I use for the forum? And why is the support site outdated with topics on installation that haven't even been updated since OOTP10? What in the hell is going on here, and how are new users expected to get support? This is absolutely crazy.

One more thing and I'm not totally sure about this either, but it seems to me that somewhere I read something about Macs lock/hide certain folders and you have to unhide/unlock them to get the game to install. Since ootp 13 only uses your documents folder for everything, that might be it. Last edited by Bigrod; 01-18-2013 at 12:02 PM. |

I don't think that's true. He needs to drag the OOTP13 icon into the Applications folder. That quote you had refers to where OOTP places the game files on a Mac, not the game icon itself.

One problem might be that one part of the site says the minimum requirements are OS14.8 in another part of the site it is OS15......I run OS14.11

Do yourself a favor and buy a PC if you can. Mac has only about 5% of the global personal computing market. Unless you're in creative services or music production, there's not much point in going with a Mac, and these are the headaches you get because it's such a small minority in the market.

But the Mac vs. PC debate is a matter of taste in the end. He should be able to run OOTP with no problems on his Mac. Hopefully he can get the problem straightened out. |

![]() It's for the same reason that there are far fewer programs and hardware options targeted to Macs: it's a very small minority in the personal computing market. In business, you go where the users are and the money is. And the same thing applies to hacking and viruses. Security advantages are the only thing keeping RIM/Blackberry alive right now, but guess what? The end is coming anyway. Security is not enough to compensate for all the other missteps and lack of features and functionality. My first personal computer beyond a Commodore 64 was a Mac. I owned one for several years and have used PCs ever since. It doesn't make practical sense to use a Mac when nearly the entire business world is using PCs and software developers overwhelmingly target PCs, whether it's business software or games. It is much harder to get support for Mac versions of many products, the Mac versions are often an afterthought with later release dates and predictably poor execution on the part of the developers, and many great titles for the past 25 years have simply not been available for Apple/Mac (or only in a watered down form). This is especially the case when it comes to sports sims, but this covers countless categories of software and titles across all genres. Once you also add the lack of openness when it comes to many Apple products, the insistence on utterly stupid restrictions like not allowing real MLB names to be used in iOOTP when sold through the iTunes store, and many other roadblocks that Apple creates for users trying to freely work with files and hardware, you've got an awful lot of headaches. I have been active on many forums for quite a number of different products over the years, including those outside of the sports sim world. I would estimate that 80 to 90 percent of the discussion related to Mac versions is about installation and activation problems, lack of features in the Mac versions to match those on the PC, and an overall lack of support for Mac from the developers. I rarely see much of anything positive discussed about Mac unless it's a product that is almost exclusively marketed and sold for that platform. But you can't blame the developers: the market share is no contest. Mac is a veritable non-entity outside of the creative industries like graphic design, page layout, publishing, and music production. And even in these areas you can get the same products with equal quality and functionality on a PC. The old days of Mac-focused developers failing to deliver equal products for the PC are largely over. They can't afford to ignore the overwhelming, massive majority of the market. Anyway, that's all I have to say on the matter. We can get the thread back to the original topic, though I think this analysis is relevant for Mac users who are interested in OOTP and many other software programs. In the meantime, hopefully the OP can get the issues sorted out and start playing the game. If not, I recommend a PC purchase in the near future. |

Installation procedure for Mac OS X, when purchasing directly from the OOTP web site:
Download the disk image (.dmg) Double-click the disk image to mount and open it. Once you open the disk image, drag the OOTP program from it to your Applications folder. Open the OOTP program from your Applications folder. OP, it's not clear to me from your description what step in this process is failing for you.

"Apple Mac minimum system requirements: Intel Processor, min. Mac OS 10.5, 512 MB RAM, About 1 GB free HD space"
OP, do meet these requirements? I noticed that OOTP 11 did not require an Intel processor, and OOTP 13 does.

Thanks, Cinnamon, for adding something helpful to the thread.

For those of you having a PC vs. Mac flame war, please take it elsewhere. There are legitimate reasons to prefer one over the other in both cases, but OOTP isn't one of them. It runs fine on both platforms.

Alright guys I figured it out......first off I will never go back to a PC. I have never had anything but problems with them. I got 2 Macs about 6 years ago and haven't looked back since. I love Macs and will never buy anything else. Next.....I already own OOTP11 and OOTP12 and I have them loaded on my desktop but I wanted to put OOTP13 on my laptop. After downloading the game and then dragging it to the Applications folder that's as far as I could get. When I double clicked on the OOTP13 icon it would show up in the dock for like a sec and then disappear so as to try to load for a second and just stop. I was running OS10.4.11 and saw somewhere that minimum requirements were OS10.4.8 so I figured I was good. Once it didn't work I went back and looked and found that it needed OS10.5. So I went ahead and upgraded to OS10.6.3 and now it is good to go. Thanks for all who responded to help me out!
