Research/Test Sims

Hey guys I have an idea to run test sims to find out which defensive position is the most important with a great defensive specialist at that position.

My Plan: Clone about 30 teams, give 15 of them a defensive specialist at a particular position and 15 just have an average glove there. Do this over and over for each position and see what positions seems to make the biggest difference.

My questions:
1. Has anyone else already done this?
2. Any tips on doing this?
3. Anything any of you all would like to see added to this?
4. Any similar ideas I could waste my time on?

Thanks

Make all hitters and pitchers (and other fielders) equal, remove trades, turn injuries/fatigue off, turn coaches/scouts off, set the same lineups for each team, override AI management, and neutralize park effects to minimize confounding factors.

I think there's already some conventional wisdom on what your results should be, but it will be interesting to see if OOTP mirrors that.

1 - Definitely what nebradska said to minimize other variabless

2 - Possibly think about doing 10 teams with great, 10 with average & 10 with bad players at the positions of interest. Maybe there's a minimal difference between great & average, but a large difference between average & bad? Or maybe the opposite, where there's not a lot of difference between bad & average? Maybe something like ll 90 defensive ratings for great, 55 for average & 25 for bad

Thanks for the input guys.

Is there an easy way to "average" out all players or to clone teams?

thanks

I'm thinking the easiest way would be to just create one custom player and clone him. I don't know how many clones you can make at one time, though, so this might be more tedious than I realize. I don't know a way to mass-edit players' ratings.
