When do I see player progression?
As a player of a lot of the EA Sports arcade/sims, I'm familiar with a once a year update cycle for player ratings. Do players change throughout the year in OOTP, or is it a once a year cycle?

If the player development engine is enabled, you will get 6-8 scouting updates per year and players can change (or not) in any of them. The player development report helps to track these changes. I am not sure if the scouting update coincides with the changes or just reports what has happened since the previous update. In historical leagues without player development on, the changes happen annually. |

I believe it's every couple of months throughout the season. Scouting (OSA & your scout) re-rates players at the start of Spring Training, start of the Season, and every couple of months throughout the season.

Online leagues have an out of game utility that tracks the details of all player talent and potential changes. Every player does not change every day but changes do happen daily. Most of them are minor fluctuations based on current performance. I do not know about scouting. If you turn scouting off you will see all changes reflected in your players profile and scouting report the day they happen. 1) Tracking, the game does not track these changes at a high frequency. 2) Setting your Actual and Potential ratings scales detailed enough to notice the change. Behind the sceens there is no difference betwwen a 2-8, a 20-80 or a 1-100 ratings scale. The game engine just converts the display to the level of detail you have decided is fun for you. If you set your rating to a high detail you can see the changes as they happen.

Thanks for the info. What I think I understand from this is that players undergo continuous change. My scout will detect that change when he looks at the player again, whether it is a scheduled report like at the start of spring training, or a specifically requested report.
I would presume that my scout's interpretation of the ratings change is subject to scouting error like everything else. |
