Realism of Game?

Hey guys, thinking of buying this game and have my finger on the trigger and just wanted to know how the realism of this game is as far as stats go? I like realistic sims and before I buy it just thought I ask. I know the games played cant be exactly like the games played in real MLB but are the stats close? Do the players perform similar to real life? Please let me know. Thanks...
BTW I havent played baseball sim in a very very long time like 8 years and the last one I played was SOM. I been playing football lately and love it. Anywho, please let me know. Thanks...

Oh yeah. The stats are as exact as you want them to be. Period.

It is a great game and very customizable. Try out the free demo for yourself.

Stats are very comparable although you might see less HR hit by some of the 600 HR club. Although I don't yet have Ruth in my historical league I have heard others say that he only hit 575 or so, Mays 600, Griffey 550, Big Mac 490 Bonds 650. This will vary from person to person. In most of my leagues where I have had various White Sox players they are on par with what they did IRL. Big Hurt in one league .303 512 HR, Harold Baines .297 2987 Hits (I unretired him to get to 3000 at age 44, took him 110 games 300 AB) Nellie Fox was still MVP in 1959. 1993 White Sox beat Toronto in 7 in '93, lost WS to SF 4-1.
You can change the modifiers that make up the stats, I am not the person to ask for that.

i would say that if players following close to certain stats is important, then you have to sort of play the game out a few times and get to know how the customized modifiers work- as you understand that more and more, you can customize your world- historical or fictional, to set up the basic type of league you want...1970's, 2000 steroid era, 50's or whatnot- but it takes a few dry runs to see what the modifiers do.

I too notice that playing historical as set out from the box, the overall stats tend to be a bit low, but with increased modifiers even historical turns out pretty much what i would expect from a certain year's play

If you are looking for individual player replay accuracy you may not get complete satisfaction. The year or league in question may be accurate in total.

Edit
There is no better sim or game of baseball in my opinion.

I think it depends what your expectations for stats are. Your never gonna exatly the same stats as real life but so you gotta choose what is acceptable to you. Some people are ok with Ruth hitting 575 hr. Others expect at least 650. If Ruth hit 800 hr is that too much?
Keep in mind you can recaculate a historical player so that Ruth should hit almost 60 hr in 1927 and not that many the year he had that bellyache.

Like others have said theres so much you can customized withe game. Theres other player databases to use or you could make your own. There are gonna be things you like and dont like. Different ways you will play the game. The ootp team dont sit on their achievements. They try to make the game better each year as do the community with mods and addons.

Ty Cobb actually batted .367 for his whe career in one of my leagues and a player had a 56 game hitting streak though it was Joe Dimaggio. Would have been amazing if it had been.
