Might Want to Autopsy This One

It is possible my league has finally died. A fictional league I started in 2007, upgraded with each new version, and migrated to at least three new computers (including a PC-to-Mac-back-to-PC trip). Played 80-some seasons. I'm sure some of the experts could find some fascinating stuff in the deepest recesses of the files, including the seasons when the game produced 80% left-handed batters. Hopefully, I can go back to the last full backup and resurrect it again, but if not, it has been quite a ride.

Did you lose the league, somehow?

Sorry about your league. My current fictional league (started with v13) has too many LHB. I haven't mentioned it because I don't have the time to run all the comparisons to prove it. It is quite obvious though as I play out games and see team after team loaded with LHB against my RHP's (same for opposing lineups). They may be platooning more but there shouldn't be enough decent LHB available to do it at this level. IRL a good LHB is a commodity. In my league, they are a dime a dozen. I practically gave a couple of my OF's away just to get more right handed. I wish we could set a percentage of RH, LH and switch hitters at league creation and following. Future creation could fluctuate slightly but still be close.

There have been threads that look at this in the past:

The sense I've gotten is that the number of left handed batters created is pretty close to reality, but the number of LHB who become major-league caliber might be more random, and so you will once in a while over a lifetime of a league run into situations where you have "too many" LHBs in the majors (or the opposite situation).

I'm not sure how you can get from generating RHB/LHB at about an 70/30 split can produce the exact opposite by the time they reach the majors. And that it happens frequently points to something in the design that creates it. In my league for a while it was hard to find RHB's at any position, and while it somewhat fixed itself, it seems to be moving back that way again.

I am beginning to think that OOTP produces an over abundance of LHB. They just also happen to make it to the ML. In my 12 team league 3 of the 6 AL teams feature 90% LHB. In the NL it's 5 of 8. I don't really care since I have many parks that favor lefties like Tiger, Yankee, Baker Bowl. There is only 3 dominant LHP.

If you have a few draft classes in which the majority of good hitting prospects are LHB. *shrug*

In real life, the pool of talent (the total population of amateur baseball players) is large enough that this doesn't happen. In OOTP, not so much.

This is just speculation on my part, though.
