I will begin by apologizing, as I have been quiet quiet on the message boards for the past few months. I have undertaken my Masters in Education, and with work and two young children, time seems to be limited. However, with that being said, I have been picking away at a new fictional world league, and I would like to share my thoughts with you, and if people have any suggestions/comments/criticisms, please feel free to post. I have the primary structure completed and I am now slowly working through the process if completing home/away unis, and primary and secondary logos for all teams. I am using what I can from preexisting mods (both my own and other modders).

Federation of World Baseball:

The federation consists of 16 regions from around the world. Each region has a 8-12 team first division (with the exception of Mexico, which has a 16 team first and 2nd division) and a 8-12 team second division.

The first division plays a 90 game schedule beginning May 1st.

The second division plays a 75 game schedule beginning June 1st.

The top 2 teams (best of 5 Ch'ship series) or 4 teams (best of 3 SF and best of 5 Ch'ship series) in each division advance to playoffs

Relegation:
The winner of the Division 2 playoffs will be promoted to Division 1 for the next season. They have a mandatory two year stay in Division 1 (should they finish year 1 with the lowest winning %, the second lowest team will be relegated). The team with the lowest winning % in Division 1 (OR second lowest winning % if required) will be relegated to Division 2.

World Cup
A 24 team tournament hosted in October.
a)The 16 champions from each Region (Division 1) will automatically advance to the World Cup.
b) the top 2 overall records from regular season who did not win their league
c) Top overall record from regular season in the Americas region who did not win their league
d) Top overall record from regular season in the European region who did not win their league
e) Top overall record from regular season in the Asian/Oceania region who did not win their league
f) 2 wildcard selections (chosen from the top remaining runner-up teams in League play)
f) Previous years champion (a third wildcard team will be picked in the inaugural season)

Teams will be randomly selected to compete in a 6 team pool (Pool A,B,C,D). Teams will play a single round robin with the top 2 teams in each pool advancing to a single game quarter final (first in pool A vs. 2nd in pool B, etc...). The winners will meet in a best of three semi-final. The two winners will then meet in a best of three World Cup Championship.

Teams are limited to 5 foreign players on their roster (no more than 5 may pitch or hit)
Players must be 21 years of age.
Division 1 consists of a 25 man roster (15 man reserve - no minors)
Division 2 consists of a 25 man roster (15 man reserve - no minors)

I think creating a 17th league (with 16 teams in 2 leagues of 2 divisions) that runs in October should work. I would have to create the league and then delete the fictional teams it creates and manually add the Regional winners myself and simulate the league. Have not actually set it up in OOTP yet, working on the mods right now, which is my favorite aspect. If anyone has any other ideas on how the World Cup could play out in the OOTP engine, please fire away your suggestions.

One question, why an 81 game schedule? The splits don't work out well with 9 games against each of the other teams and an odd number of games total for each team. Won't a 90 game schedule work better? Just a suggestion.

In terms of an 81 game schedule, I guess I never gave it much thought (must have stopped counting at 9!!!), but a 90 does make much more sense. Thanks!

Region 8. Yeah, should be Oceania, wasn't really thinking.

I did originally have Africa (and many teams were from South Africa), then when I looked at my Western Hemisphere regions, I ended up with 17 so I dropped Africa. I have a number of mods already completed for Africa so I can complete the others and add them to my final zip file should people wish to swap out one league for Africa.

Again, please share your thoughts/comments. I may release the teams that comprise each region in the near future, both first and second division.

Okay, mods are done, and the first season is now in July. I will post screenshots of the standings so you can get an idea of the teams in each region. Other than having to create some free agents for teams that did not have enough players to fill their roster, and forgetting to reset the Canadian League's schedule to 90 games (they are currently playing a full season) no glitches to date.

Yep. I will zip up the folders that contain both the first and second division team unis, with all the logos (primary and small). Download link has been added to the original post at top of page. It is a zipped folder in my dropbox.
