Are you looking for a Hall of Fame voting experience?
I, among others, have longed for a simulated Hall of Fame voting addition to the game. However it has been largely overlooked or perhaps to annoying a feature to add with great success.
I am happy to share how my league has mimicked the HoF voting process though! All you need? the site random.org and a wordpad document perhaps to keep each years results ready at your need. The rules? A player is eligible five years after his retirement. I find it best to look over the retired players each year (Easier than ever in OOTP 13!) and then put them in my HoF document in wordpad listing their first year of eligibility next to it. Also, a player may only stay on the ballot for 15 years. Other than this they also use the rule that a player who drops below 5% is eliminated from future ballots and 75% is needed to get in. (I use 10% myself) You have the rules, players are retiring in your league... now what? Each player will be given a specific assigned base vote number based on their production as a player. I will get into how a player gets that number in a bit. Next for a first year ballot player, you will take that base vote number and roll a dice (I prefer to use the random dice generator at RANDOM DOT ORG) that amount of time. That is their initial vote percentage. If your player has a base vote of 4, you roll the die 4 times. If the rolls are 2, 6, 2, and 3 his first ballot he receives 13% of the vote. So your first hall of fame you do everyone's initial vote... what happens next year? Keep those numbers available in a wordpad holding the results of your voting records. The next season you will take that player's last voting percentage (13% in this case) and roll a 6 sided die again and also use the random integer generator (at RANDOM DOT ORG) making it so only numbers between 2 and 10 can be generated (You may use 1-9, or any other number based on how heavy you want your HoF to be filled). The dice roll indicates the amount subtracted from the previous year's total and the integer generator indicates the amount added. The odds lay with him receiving MORE votes each season which mimics real life voting trends. In this case I have my previous year's 13%, roll a 3 with the die but get a 7 with the integer generator. His 2nd year voting share is bumped up to 17% now. This is all fine and dandy but how do I decide what to start a player out with? That base voting number is a product of WAR. I will provide the framework for coming up with the base voting number below for each general position (Position player, starting pitcher, relief pitcher) POSITION PLAYER: Single Season WAR totals WAR = Amount added to base vote number 3.0-3.9 = 0.5 4.0-6.4 = 1.0 6.5-8.9 = 1.5 9.0+ = 2.0 Career WAR totals WAR = Amount added to base vote number 30 = 0.5 40 = 1.0 50 = 2.0 60 = 3.0 70 = 4.5 80 = 6.0 100 = 7.0 Career totals can also help (sometimes launching a bunch of bombs can get you in despite a relatively weak WAR) 1,500 RBI = 1.5 1,500 Runs = 1.5 500 Homeruns = 5.0 3,000 Hits = 6.0 2,500 Hits = 1.0 STARTING PITCHER: Single Season WAR totals WAR = Amount added to base vote number 3.0-3.9 = 0.5 4.0-6.4 = 1.0 6.5-8.9 = 1.5 9.0+ = 2.0 Career WAR totals WAR = Amount added to base vote number 30 = 0.5 40 = 1.0 50 = 2.0 60 = 3.0 70 = 4.5 80 = 6.0 100 = 7.0 Career totals 300 Wins = 6.0 250 Wins = 1.5 3,000 K = 2.0 RELIEF PITCHER: Single Season WAR totals WAR = Amount added to base vote number 1.2-1.9 = 0.5 2.0-2.6 = 1.0 2.7-3.3 = 1.5 3.4+ = 2.0 Career WAR totals WAR = Amount added to base vote number 20 = 1.0 25 = 1.5 30 = 2.0 40 = 3.5 Career totals 500 saves = 3.0 400 saves = 1.5 200 holds = 2.0 150 holds = 1.0 To BE CLEAR, you add his season total, career total and any additional bonus all together for his Base Voting Number. It is not as complicated as it all sounds and is fairly quick to master. For instance, look at Tony Gwynn and do a trial run yourself. his initial base vote number should come out to 17.5 I would roll the dice (1-6) 18 times, dividing the final roll by two to cover the .5 You can add whatever additions you like for career numbers that can add incentives to the initial roll (.850 OPS, 500 stolen bases, whatever you like). I have been using this for some time and find that it very realistically mimics the real life process as best as I have seen anywhere on this site. ANY feedback is appreciated. I used your old method and put it in an excel document that uses macros to calculate the percentages as well. I tweaked a few of the numbers for my preferences. If anyone would like the file, let me know.

I saw your method and did a lot of test runs with it, and I was really pleased with the results, and agree that they are the best that I've seen mimic the process. I liked them so much I'm going to adopt a slightly modified version for my dynasty. Thanks for creating this!

Always interested in how others work their HOF. Thank you both for your contributions! Downloaded both of your items and plan on incorporating your ideas.
Is the WAR stat available in any of the export files? Also, if I could plug a tool I love....Tysok created a Win Share and HOF utility years ago and just updated it for v13. You can get WS, black/ grey ink, Monitor, standards, etc. from it. I use it to get Albrights HOF criteria. I plan on using Hfields system and incorporating those stats into MArinersfans spreadsheet. Thanks again.

That system also produced great results! And can't thank him enough for any work he has done incorporating something similar into a spreadsheet. I only made the switch from completely stats based to more WAR based because I found better base value numbers and I eliminated some cases of good base numbers for lower level players who played a long time and racked up statistics. I enjoy hearing about how anyone incorporates a voting system into their game though because that is such a great part of the Hall of Fame! |

HOF question while we're on the topic. Can I manually add retired players to the HOF if I'm not acting as Commish? If so, how do I?
Thanks |
