Please recommend proportion of HS to college in OOTP13 manual
In the OOTP 13 manual, there is a good explanation of how to determine the number of total feeder leagues for a given league.
One important aspect that is missing is the proportion of college teams to high school teams. For example, I have determined based on the calculations explained in the manual that I should create 150 feeder teams for my league. My question is how many of those 150 should be college and how many should be high school. I would like to choose a ratio that most closely mirrors real life. I do not even have a rough idea about what the ratio of college teams to high school teams would be. I assume the ratio would be the same as the ratio of college players to high school players in the real-life draft. At one time I tried to determine the real-life ratio. I cannot remember the method I used, but there was some form of real-life data. I think I concluded that there should be about 3 high school teams for every 2 college teams. I think a suggestion as to the appropriate ratio would be a good addition to the OOTP 13 manual. I suspect that someone in the OOTP community has a good idea what the ratio should be. If anyone has a good idea of what the real-life ratio between college and high school players is, I'd appreciate that input in this thread. |

I cannot give a "real" ratio as I really do not know. But...
I have completed a fictional sim from 1901 - 2041 using the current MLB and full minors setup to start in 1901 with feeders only for the draft. Historical calculations on etc so it have relative financials and deadball era etc. No eveolution as I used the current logo's etc. Not a fan of the generated ones for some reason... With that I had 150 feeder teams and even then the free agent list was getting blown out. I had 90 high school teams and 60 college teams. Some HS that did not sign did go to college, but only a few each year. I looked a the ratio of what number of HS kids go to college and 2/5 sounded reasonable to me ergo my 60/150 feeder teams are college. It may seem high, but it probably stops an all out HS crap shoot on the draft and allows a number of developed 20-22 yr olds entering the draft. As you have got a ratio of 3/2 HS/C and I have used it semi successfully I say go for that and try it for a few years. Save the template before You start and you can change the ratio and try again if it don't work out. One thing I did find was a huge amount of free agents. 1200+ on opening day was not unusual. So I started a program of culling. Preseason - my free agent list would show all players that have more than 10 yrs experience (this actually included HS & C) and not played ONE pro game, well they were retired. Playoffs begin - any free agent over the age of 35 that had not been signed that year, were deemed to be past it by all teams and thus retired... It kep the free agent pool sort of manageable but still large... Last edited by Thelkin; 05-03-2012 at 09:15 PM. |
