playoff tiebreakers

In doing a test historical league, I found a (pre-1900) season where four teams tied for the top spot: The NY Giants, Boston Beaneaters, Cindy Reds, and Brooklyn Brides all finished at 89-65.

The teams finished as follows vs one another:

NY vs Bos 14-8
NY vs Brook 8-14
NY vs Cinc 10-12
Cinc vs Bos 10-12
Cinc vs Brook 9-13
Brook vs Bos 8-14

The one-game playoff matchups were:

Day after the season: Brooklyn at New York
Next day: Boston at Cincy

This was in OOTP v12, but I am not only wondering how OOTP determined the matchups & home field, but also if OOTP 13 does it differently... (Is this determined by a sort of binary coin flip, or something else?)

Also, had I wanted to, could I have manually changed the one-game playoff matchups, and also had them take place on the same day? I know that this is generally possible with normal playoffs, such as an LCS or World Series, but not sure about these...

Thanks in advance.

Manual scheduling is indeed possible.
