Team rebuild

I was wondering what are people's suggestions for rebuilding your team. Should I just get rid of some of the big contract guys and bring in prospects. Should I try hang onto them and get rid some of the lesser players on the team. My team is not performing how I'd like and I'm just wondering how people approach rebuilding.

Personally, I build with pitching. If you have good pitching prospects, you can trade those for a lot of hitting prospects. I won 9/10 championships with the Rays this way. Also, in drafts, I'm normally last or close to last, and I draft relievers because those are good trade bait because a lot of teams need closers.

What I do when I'm rebuilding:

Trade away any players with 1 year left on their contract that you don't plan on resigning for prospects.

Try to resign any young guys that are really good to long deal contracts.

Don't spend huge money on free agents unless they are young and elite at their position like Felix Hernandez.

Draft a positional player in the 1st round of the draft unless there is a pitcher with near 20/20/20 potential. If there is still another good positional player in the 2nd round get him, otherwise get all pitchers.
During arbitration if a not so great player is awarded like $4mil a year, I will just cut him because sometimes you can't even get anything when you try to trade them away. "My team will not accept a trade that involves overpaid veterans!"
