Question Team strategy

To cite from OOTP 11 manual:
Quote:
The Overall Strategy subpage is completely optional. Even if you do not touch these settings, the AI will do its best to manage your team effectively when you auto-play games. These settings, however, allow you to micromanage where it suits your tastes. Additionally, if you play out your games, there is no need to configure your strategy settings, since you will determine your strategy on the fly!
That means that if you autosim your games, you don't need it; and if you play your games manually, you don't need it.
How to resolve this (what word to use? conundrum? oxymoron? inconsistency?)? What exactly does team strategy to the AI manager strategy? It adds to it, or replaces it, or does something else? This question is very important to me, because I like strategy games, and this is almost all that exists in place of FM's strategy. Is there any reason to change this entirely optional settings? Do the changes you make to the sliders influence something?
On unrelated note: the feature I would like to have in version 14 is interviews with players or managers, and maybe press conferences.

My impression, without having any knowledge of how the program actually works, is that is adds to the strategy. In other words, it pushes the strategy in the direction that you have chosen. It makes the manager more or less likely to perform the action in the game situation.

Without touching the sliders, the manager will still pinch-hit at the obvious and appropriate times. If you change the slider to pinch-hit for position players more often late in tight games, you will see more of that than normal.

I like to click the option to have my manager set team stategy. I do this cause #1 I'm kinda lazy like that, but #2 it adds a little bit of depth to my game. For instance, I have a "theme" in mind for my team. I.e. scrappy speed demons, power hitters, good def and pitching etc...and I then have to find a manager to hire that will get the most out of that team based on their prefered strategy. And just for lessons sake, Whitey ball doesn't work with a lineup full of slow power hitters...

But to answer you question, I have found that the team strategy sliders have a great impact on each situation, each game and each season.

It does seem that they are not a "sensitive" as you would think. For instance if you want your lineup to swipe some bases, you really have to slide it almost to the end of "often" to see some hard results.

Love this part of your answer. I would love this to be the "strategy" one must employ to get the most out of their team. Or, as another layer possibly, if you hire a coach that goes completely against what YOU set as team strategy, then there would be some kind of penalty and/or friction with any coach/manager not basically aligned with your idea of how the team should be run?

By the way if you check out the manager tendencies file it has some interesting combinations of settings for the "name" managers through the years.
