Facegen wont initiate

Can anyone help with this problem. Suddenly and for no apparent reason facegen no longer initiates in any of my leagues. This means no picture updates, no uniform updates, etc. I've tried both troubleshooting settings for facegen in the preferences and there it says facegen is enabled but if I go to the game setup it says facegen is not enabled and not initiated and it won't let me change any photo settings. PLEASE HELP

I had a similar issue in OOTP8 that I think was DirectX related. Facegen stopped working and I had some other weird sound playback problems in another game. Eventually reading up on the sound problem from the other game led me to reinstalling the DirectX 9 executable... found out later that day that this also seemed to fix my facegen issue. Could have been a complete coincidence, but reinstalling DirectX shouldn't have any real risks either.

EDIT: DirectX is dependent on what version of Windows you are running... this was a few years ago on a laptop with WinXP, which only supports DirectX 9. I believe Vista/Win7 are up to Direct10 or 11 by now... and that might be a different ball of wax as far as reinstallation.
