Contraction

Before anyone blasts this for being a topic before... yes, I did a search. All it found was talk about the MLB contraction.

What I need is a tutorial. I have a good idea on how do go about my contraction... simply go to league structure, exchange and delete teams as neccessary. Then throw the guys drafted onto their new teams. Correct?

However, I'd like to know any tips before I go about doing this and mess up my league files. Is there a utility that will let you move players from team to team without having to release and sign them?

See... I'm doing the contraction at the end of the season, since I've read on here, doing it at the beginning of a season can mess up schedules, ama drafts and everything else. So, the trading deadline has passed.

Is there any hope for me being able to move playes from team to team without the hassle of signing them all as free agents?

Thanks for any tips.

I have contracted to start a new league, but I imagine it would work once a career is underway. Here is what I did:

(1) I went to League Structure and edited my league to reflect the way I wanted it contracted. This should dump the players from the contracted teams into the free agent pool.

(2) I created a new custom league that mirrored the League Structure from step 1. I imagine if you already have a league underway, you would change the year to the year you left off. I don't think it matters what you select for players or records.

(3) From my original league, I copied the team, team2, players, and coaches files into the newly created custom league.

(4) In the newly created custom league I manually changed the name of the divisons, awards, etc from league set up.

You will start with the sign coach/scout phase. Then you will do an initial draft with the free agent pool composed of the left over free agents and the contracted players. Then the season will begin.

From what I recall, those drafted players willing to accept minor league contracts will automatically do so. Everyone else will automatically be given 1 year, $100,000 contracts. I also remember a problem with the coachs/scouts for the teams that were contracted not showing up in the new file.

If you are contracting a league after it is already underway, I imagine you could also copy the news folder and records file to perserve the history? Should you choose to try this, I would back up your league because its been a while since I did it and I could be off on a few steps.
