Ghost team bug - help!!!!!

Just picked up the game and started a Pre-Steriod Era league managing the Milwaukee Brewers.

I play from 80-83 with no problems; everything seems to be working as it should.

1983 seasons ends and the game progresses into free agency. I start sending offers, etc.; everything seems to be working as it should.

I notice that FAs suddenly stop responding to my offers and eventually sign with other teams. Weird, but okay, fine. Around the same time I notice that the Brewers suddnely have a 0-0 record on the League screen and are 162.5 games out first in the standings. ALL THE OTHER TEAMS ARE STILL SHOWING THEIR 1983 records.

I shrug and set my lineups and rotation for Spring Training. I start simming games. I start to see weird names of Brewer players in the box scores. I click Brewers on the League screen and am taken to a team made up of completely random MLers that are playing all the simmed games. Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, etc. are nowhere to be found. But, I can still click on the various Team pages and there all my players are!

It is as if my team is a ghost team and does not exist in the world of the game.

So, I start over with a new league/team and play the 1980 season. Everything is fine. But, as soon as the season amatuer draft ends I notice the Brewers suddnely have a 0-0 record on the League screen and are 162.5 games out first in the standings. ALL THE OTHER TEAMS ARE STILL SHOWING THEIR 1980 records. Once again, I am unable to interact with the world. Once again, there is a new "bogus" Brewers team.

Has anyone seen this bug before? It renders the game completely unplayable. When I try to update the game it tells me I have the most up to date version of OOTP 11. WTH????

1) The main screen. Note Brewers are 0-0.
2) The "bogus" Brewers screen. Note the pitching staff.

did you make any changes to the Brewers abbreviations, nickname , ID or anything else?
Also perhaps try to uncheck League evolution for 1 season. i will run my own test tomorrow.

Actually, I did change the abbreviations and ID. I am hoping this was the cause of the problem. I restarted a new league and did not touch those items. We'll see how it goes...

Awhile back on 11 I tested changing the leadue ID,nickname etc so the Expos would stay and not turn into the Nats, there was no way to change it, I then tried the same thing with Detroit and although I dont recall the exact outcome now, i believe i had part of the same problem with 2 Tigers teams.
Let me know what happens.

I have played through to the start of the 1984 season. So far so good, no problems, I think changing the abbreviations was the cause of the bug.

THANKS FOR THE TIP.

That was it. The game makes your team inactive if there is no matching team ID for the next year. I believe it is ok to change your abbreviation, the one between city and nickname but changing team ID or Franchise ID will cause your team to no longer exist when it has no match in the DB. If it is not your team the only way to find it is through history or if it still has players show all players and click on the team name.

Also note changing the nickname or city will be undone when the DB updates next year assuming you have the right team ID and franchise ID. Rather than having a list of year changes the game checks city and nickname against what is in the DB for that year for that team and franchise ID. So if you change Milwaukee Brewers to Sherwood Kinghts who say ni then it would change back to Milwaukee Brewers the next year.
