Questions on potential rating??
I'm using the Phillies, and I traded for 3rd baseman Andy LaRoche, who was rated 4.5 stars overall with a 5 star potential according to my scouting director (who's really good according to his scouting ratings). A day after the trade I go to add LaRoche to my lineup and much to my surprise he's rated 1 star with a 1 star potential according to my SD.
Why the dramatic decline? I didn't change his position or do anything other than trade for him. |

I've seen others post about similar changes, but I don't recall if there's ever been a consensus as to the cause. I would look at his individual ratings and see if they look different. As a general rule, the individual ratings can be more useful than the stars anyway. Hope that helped.

One of the main reasons is that your scout always has a better read on players in your own organisation. I suspect joining your organisation causes a bit of a "re-scout" rather than the usual Jan 1st change as well so you may be seeing a decline over the season being updated.
Even the best scouts on the highest accuracy can get things wildly wrong, on day 1 of the MLB quickstart, my legendary scout rated Tim Lincecum at 2 stars on the very high accuracy setting, so always use stats and a large pinch of salt with scouts on. |

Thanks for the replies. It makes sense that the ratings might be different once I get a guy in my organization. I just wasn't expecting it to be that drastic. Is Andy LaRoche supposed to be good in this game or not? Not sure which one is the "true" rating, the 4.5 star potential or the 1 star potential.
I didn't give up too much to get him so it's not like it drastically hurts my team or anything. |

Actually, it doesn't make sense, given the time parameters. The scout doesn't assign a value based on the organization. If you're using scouts, you'll either have the AI eval unchecked or checked with either the Position or Player comparison. Regardless, I can't imagine a scenario, other than injury or a birthday (?), that would result in that kind of drastic change in that short amount of time. You didn't change his position and nothing out of the ordinary seems to have occurred, so I'm a bit puzzled. Do you have a league backup from 'before' the trade? If you do, submit a ticket, upload those league .dat files and detail the steps to take to see it happen, please.
Also, for my own peace of mind, maybe you can give as many more details as you have available as goes AI Eval settings, which box is checked, scout ratings, etc... anything you think might enlighten the total picture. On the surface, personally, I can't justify it.

I just started a default 2011 game, I didn't mess with the settings or anything. Using the standard rosters that came with the game. Trades were on normal

To cover the bases, begs the question have you installed the latest patch? I duplicated all of your activities- based on what I've read -and am not able to replicate the problem. I simmed one day at a time for weeks after the trade and he remained a 4-1/2 / 5 star candidate. The only odd trap I fell into in my first attempt was looking at Adam LaRoche (1B) who is a 1-2 star and thinking aha!, I see what he means, but it was just that, my mistake. So, I'm at a loss. What about the version number, then?

EDIT: Checked again and I don't see an Adam LaRoche on my team only Andy. Turns out I did have the latest patches installed. I started another league and made the trade for Andy LaRoche again and this time it looks like he regained his true potential. Last edited by Demonolith; 10-01-2011 at 10:45 PM. |
