2011 New York Yankees Thread
Well, I waited and waited for one of my Yankees fan brethren to start this thread, but it seems they've taken a hiatus of sorts. So, it falls to me. No matter. I will carry on (in more ways than one)!
![]() I'd like to lead off with this Yankees preview from Newsday, our local newspaper. Obviously, I added the boldface and smilies: Quote:

Strange fact:
In 2010, AJ Burnett became the first Yankee in history to finish with at least 15 losses and an ERA over 5.00. |

Despite what the experts think I still like the Yankees in the east. Despite the Red Sox getting better the Rays have gotten worse. I don't know if New York will get close to 100 wins, but I still like them. Their offense can still score runs in bunches.

Just to weigh in for a second, but I still think the Yanks win the East. |

This even funnier comment by Cashman has increased my respect for him considerably.

Mark Teixeira: first Yankee to hit a home run in the first three games of a season since Dave Winfield in 1983.

Nelson Cruz has already hit 4 hr's in the first 4 games. I bet someday he will be a Yankee, so never fear.

Also, it's very nice to see Tex start off hot. Hopefully, the work he put in the off-season is paying off avoiding the customary slow start. Seems like the hiring of Kevin Long as hitting coach was a stroke of genius.

WE DID IT!!
Sorry, had to. You guys kick our ass every year, so to get one (meaningless) win in April rocks. However, Jason Kubel has Mariano Rivera's number...that, I like ![]() |

I find the payroll talk hilarious among some fans.
The Red Sox <snip> until they won a championship with a huge payroll ($125M, 2nd highest). Same with the Phillies who now boast a rather large one. If you don't like it stop going to games and complain to the commissioner about a rule change. The Yankees would be stupid not to take advantage. More on direct topic, the Orioles may possibly be viable contenders this year for the division yay or nay? Showalter brought them to 34-23 after a 32-73 start under two different managers and they are hot to start this season with a more Showalter friendly team. If the yankees can't nab the divison this season I think the Orioles is the only other team i'd like to see take it. Last edited by CommishJoe; 04-06-2011 at 08:06 AM. ![]() As for the question about Rothschild and Long being the best coaches in the league, I would say Long is one of the best hitting coaches for sure. Jury is still out on Rothschild.

Derek Jeter passed Rogers Hornsby for 33rd place on baseball’s all-time list with two hits today.

It's too bad about the Minnesota 2B. They're saying it was a clean play, just not something he was used to, coming from the ***:

Pitchers over here are supposed to apologize to the hitters after they hit them with the pitch, and if they do not, then the hitters will go after the pitchers! ![]() If the play (the slide) like this one happened in Japan, and if the 2B was a year older than the runner, oh boy, the bench will be cleared and the runner will be blamed for the "misbehavior" by everyone in the game. It is just the difference of the culture, I guess.
