Hiring New Arbitrators
I would like to request that the old arbitrator in IOOTP be retired to shady acres as he is clearly on the take from the players
![]() Seriously in my most recent game, I am playing in the 2020 season as the small market Oakland A's. I have noticed arbitration weirdness before, but I was playing as a larger market team at the time. I have put together a very nice streak of World Series wins and have a farm system and bench loaded with talent. I have been signing guys in their 2nd or 3rd year to 2-3 year contracts and turning them over when I can no longer afford them for cheaper talent ( the small market way! ). Over the last few years I have noticed everyone automatically asking for 12M for a new contract, and the arbitrator granting them 12M... and these are after 1 or 2 years of full time play... and often not that great play.... Here are some examples: ================================================== ======= 25 year old SS Mann Arellano He is a 5 star player, with 13 ratings across the board... but that translated into : 2019: 523AB .243 avg, .324 obp, .407 slugging 20 hr 80rbi... He demanded 12Million to sign, tried everything < 12M in offer, rejected them all in 2020 I replaced him in the starting lineup with a younger prospect.. 2020: 83AB .253 avg .380 obp, .470, 3 HR, 14 RBI pay was 1.6M He demanded and was granted 12M ================================================== ======= 25 Year old RF Jiong Tsai He is a 5 star player, with great skills 17/15/14/14 (in the 2021 preseason, he got better the last 2 years) 2019: 451AB .304 .391 OBP .503 slugging 17HR 83RBI He demanded 12Million to sign an extension , tried everything < 12M in offer, rejected them all In the offseason I signed a beast FA OF to a 1 year deal, the guy was gold for 50HR, so Jiong went to the pine... 2020: 40AB .325avg .412OBP, .375 slg, 0HR 7RBI pay was 3.5M He was granted 12M in arbitration ================================================== ======= 24 year old Wes Rivers 4.5 star player 16/18/8/12 2019: 60ab-.233avg-.281obp-.500 slg, 4HR, 14RBI He was asking for like 2 million, it was his second year < 125AB 2020: 465ab-.254avg-.302obp-.492slg 29hr-94RBI pay was 400K Wins 12M in arbitration ================================================== ======= 25 Year old catcher Kiril Adriaens 4 star catcher 15/16/8/19 2019: 526ab 302avg 340obp 534slg 29HR 118rbi was asking for 12M, was making 5M 2020: 520ab 258 avg 316obp 440slg 21hr 79 rbi pay was 5M arbitrator granted 11.5M THis is an odd one... why 11.5? ================================================== ======= 26 Year old catcher Manuel Castaneda 4.5 star catcher 17/17/11/12... my backup catcher, never more then 237ab's in a season 2019: 187AB .278avg, .349 obp, .519 slg 11HR 34rbi making 400K, demanding 12M to sign 2020 140AB .307avg, .401 obp, .543 slg 8HR 18rbi making 400K arbitrator granted 12M ================================================== ======= 25 Year old 3B Jesus Ortega 4/5 star player 13/14/10/15 < 250ab per year in 3 seasons 2019: 130AB .308avg, .377 obp .523slg 6HR 12RBI making 400K, demanding 7M 2020: 254ab .280avg, .348 obp, .531 slg 13HR 52RBI making 400K arbitrator granted 12M Now I know this could be caused by the league salaries overall increasing over the years, my payroll has gone up 20-30M in the 9 years I have been playing this game....but it seems like the ai is cheating a bit and basing its arbitration #'s on a players ratings and not his performance. A SS hitting .250 with 20HR power asking for the same money as a .300 hitting RF with 30+hr potential... asking for the same money as players with < 600AB in their career... asking for the same money as backups... its all frustrating! More Arbitrator Fun
As I mentioned previously at a certain point the AI seems to just demand and get 12M contracts.
Started a new game and am in 2019 ... Have a SS who has 13 (contact), 11 (power), 11 (eye), 17 (Def)... 2 years with 100AB's and a < .220 , the last season he had 250 AB and hit .335 with .410 OBP, 7HR 34RBI... He was making 400K, and now demands a raise to 12M.... which he was granted. Ironically I also have a CF with 13-18-16-18.... Last year he hit .306-29HR-103RBI-11SB, he also demanded the same salary 12M. A year previous my other SS 14-14-15-20 ( much better then this years SS ) asked for and got 12.5M... Am I paying for future potential? If so that seems a little odd. |

More fun, 2 seasons later... I dropped 2 of these arbitration eligible players who were asking for 12 million. They signed for 10, with teams. So why the arbitrator give more then fair market value?
