Another reason why I can't stand A-Roid!
Source: MLB could suspend Alex Rodriguez for illegal poker - ESPN New York
Need I say more! He is an arrogant jerk and I can't stand him! |

Yes you need to say more. You can't stand him because he plays underground poker?

Online polls say fans don't believe the steroids problem is gone from the game and a CBA is ending soon...
this is what Selig's office is worried about? A poker match? Grant it I understand he has been warned before and if he faces suspension as a result I'm fine with that. As a human being I think A-Rod is a bad role model, a bad sport, and many other things but this is honestly ridiculous. |

Just an FYI, that poker game you and your boys schedule every weekend is probably illegal.
There are lots of reasons to dislike A-Rod, this ain't one of them. |

Probably not. Cash games are only illegal if there's a rake. If no one is taking a cut off the top it's perfectly legal to play for money.

It's not that I dislike the man, it's just his arrogance that bothers me. A little humility wouldn't hurt him one bit. Last edited by Bluenoser; 08-04-2011 at 12:24 PM. |

I would agree with this.

What I don't understand is why this guy cannot stay away from controversy. He know he's high-profile. If he did continue to indulge after he was told to stop, then he's a moron because he should know by now that everything he does is magnified way out of proportion.

I see no mention of a rake in the article.
As for the OP, you're kidding, right? |

I said probably. By the sounds of the article, the term illegal is used in a fairly liberal way. |

I would safely assume A-Rod isn't the only major leaguer participating in "illegal" poker games. |

That's all that needs to be said about that. Anyway, bottom line for me is - innocent until proven guilty. I look at the quality of the rag that's reporting it and can't help but wonder just how much truth there is to it. Doesn't change my opinion of the man though. The fact you compare playing poker to cheating on your wife completely discredits anything else you've said. That's all that needs to be said about that. |

As for 'grown'.............how about the fact that he's an adult human being and he can play cards if he wants to? He wasnt even there according to one witness to the fight night game. Furthermore, he's not cavorting with loan sharks or mafioso, so what's the big freaking deal? He was playing cards with about 5 movie stars. Geez. Bud, don't you have better things to do? |

A-Rod's problem is that baseball has a history of treating anything to do with gambling very seriously, for obvious reasons. Now, I don't think what he did was inherently wrong, even if it was illegal, but I'm not sure Selig will agree with me there lol.
