Unhappy This is disappointing

I really would like to hire the White Rat (Whitey Herzog) to be my bench coach. However, when I right-click on his name to turn him into a coach, I am not given that option. Why? I had this same problem with OOTP11. Should I submit a support ticket for this issue?

He probably only wants to be a manager?

Did you search and make sure he wasn't already a manager? I never had this problem, so I just can't really tell.

Here is a screenshot that hopefully will help explain what my problem is:

Looks to me like you must "unretire" him first.

Sorry, just haven't seen it. Only other guess I could throw out is his age? He would be past where most coaches in the game retire. Nothing else i can think of. I've do it regularly without a hitch.

Only other flyer (and this one is pretty much know the answer), you do have coaches on?

No. That would bring him back as a 79 year old player.

All it says on that screen is that he was a "Matching Player" to your search. Are you sure he ever actually became a coach in your universe?

Yes, I do have coaches on. Your guess about age is now my guess to as I did a search for Don Zimmer and wouldn't you know it...the same thing. I now wonder what the maximum age is to be a coach? This now makes me wish that Markus would slightly increase the max age. Oh well. I'll just have to hire the Wizard to be my bench coach .

I had the same problem in OOTP 11 myself with Davey Johnson. Tried to hire him as manager of the US team in a WBC template to no avail.

Not sure if it's related to age or not. But, since the guy's just been hired as the Nats manager IRL (not to mention 80 yr. old Jack McKeon managing the Marlins for the reminder of this season) I wouldn't suggest increasing the age limit. I'd suggest removing it altogether. After all, it's not like we're gonna hire 100+ yr. olds as managers/coaches

No, he hasn't ever became a coach in my universe. This is what I'm trying to accomplish. But I think his age may prevent me from doing so.

You know. It might be that they have retired from coaching before the game created, and it will not let them un-retire. You are about to make me go all "testy" up in here.

From what I could tell from a little testing, the managers that have retired in the past (irl) just can't be brought back for whatever reason. The only ones that can are the guys that retired last year (because they still assigned to their teams, but not where you can see them).
