Reliability of scout ratings.
Glad to have OOTP12 in my game collection!
![]() I'm familiar with sports management games but nevertheless, I'm a baseball rookie. Now, I'm wondering while setting myself up for the season with the Dodgers and looking at my rotation and scouting director: how much faith should I put into the scouting director's ability to rate the club's players when his rating is "Excellent" for the Major Leagues? The point is that in my rotation I've got Rubby de la Rosa and he gets poor ratings from the scouting director but the OSA rates him as pretty good. The difference is so big that I'm confused. Also, because I might want to replace him with someone whose ratings are good as far as the scouting director is concerned but OSA thinks he's poor. Is there anyone who can give me his/her thoughts about this? |

I've not looked at this much with 12 yet, but with 11 even with Scouting Accuracy set to 'very high' and good quality coaches, there can be big differences between scouted ratings and real ratings. What's slightly disconcerting for a while is that it seems that for most players they're very close, yet your scout will be utterly wrong on the odd player.
Mind, the same seems to affect the AI, which is where you can (fairly legitimately) get some trade value - easily spotted when you're shopping an average player - most teams may offer 1 or 2 star players in return, and one team will offer 3 or 4 star players: their scout thinks the player you're offering is a stud.

I don't put ratings on very high, I actually play without ratings other than "other ratings" what I've seen from the scouts is that they are hit and miss..you can find a good player in the 30th round that nobody thought had a chance.

So, if I'd put Scouting Accuracy on 'very high' the AI would also have the same knowledge and accuracy 'very high'? That would pretty much even out the trade value, wouldn't it? |

As in real life, your scout is more accurate with your own players than with players in other organizations. And accuracy increases over time.
And do not forget that scouting budget (and the way you allocate it) has a significant influence.
