How do I properly set-up indy league?
Ok, so I decided to add an Indy league during the offseason heading into my fourth year in my solo league. I used the Mexican League template and just created my own team names and I have the season set to start in May of the following year.
My reason for adding an indy league was the hope that the teams will sign players that are in the free agent pool. Either washed up ex-major leaguers or players cut from low level A ball, basically players just looking for another chance. There are 8 teams in the league and every one of those teams has signed players from the FA pool to a minor league contract, however its only a few per team and for some reason all these teams are signing players that they have discovered in other countries. How do I get it so that most players on these teams are from the FA pool? I dont want these teams having 90% of their roster made up of talent discovered elsewhere. Heck I am heading into my fourth season and not once has my scout discovered talent. Now I am using the default financials for the Mexican league template that came with the game. |

What is your draft situation for this league? If this league has a typical draft, then it's going to get players that way and not as many from free agency. Even if you disable the draft, free agents will be created for that league, which doesn't help either.
What I've done with my indy leagues is set them up to have a 5 round draft of 40 year olds (set player creation min and max to 40). These players retire quickly and the teams are forced to absorb free agents. I also set it so it requires only one year to become a free agent. |

Much like the previous poster, I set up my Indy leagues to have incredibly short FA requirements. I also set their financials extremely low, otherwise I will see stars from my main league jump ship.

If you don't want any of the indy league's players bleeding back over into your league, you can set it set it up so that player movement goes only one way in the settings, which would still allow the major league(s) to re-sign their old players. I really wish that the game supported some sort of temporary contract that could be terminated/bought out if a major league team was interested in signing an independent league guy. |

Well I decided to just let the league run as is, now the only problem is I have one team with only 14 roster slots filled, every other team has 25 players, plus players on their reserve roster. And this team has a projected balance as $2billion (yes, 2 billion, no lie), so why the heck will it not sign any players, if nothing else to fill those spots

Active is set at 25 and I forget how many for reserves. No matter, once I simmed a day the team signed a bunch of players. It was the first game of the season they played with only 14 or so players, now everything seems to be running smoothly. |
