NBBL - Introduction/1901 Season
Thanks to ctorg, OOTP now has a database of common fictional players. I am using this database starting in 1901 and going on to the present
I will play most of my games as coach and GM of my team, so this should go relatively slow (as opposed to tcblcommish who is simming ahead fairly quickly, and who does not have all of my original players) but I will intend on posting updates by the game month. I also intend on keeping the history of the league using Cato's utility starting from the end of the first season. I have a 24-team league taking random MLB teams and leaving others to the side. I intend to think of this league as 100% modern day with the settings, ballparks, etc all set to today's standards. Basically I am starting in 1901 for the full purpose of the database, and all numbers should be to 2002 standards. I have control over the Montreal Expos, in the NL East along with Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Milwaukee. The NL West includes Arizona, Colorado, San Francisco, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Houston. The AL East includes Toronto, Baltimore, Boston, New York, Chicago, Detroit. The AL West includes Cleveland (the one geographic quirk), Oakland, Kansas City, Seattle, Texas and Anaheim. All teams have 40 man rosters, and were chosen through a standard-form draft (1-24, 1-24, 1-24). I picked 22nd in the draft. I will try my best to focus on superstars emerging around the history of the league, and other happenings. HOUSE RULES: -- Talent-Only rating system (even for the draft) -- Must keep the payroll OUT of the Top-10 in the league (no personal or league-wide salary cap) -- I will have some trading restrictions, but no specific ones as of yet -- That is all I have now, I will add more as I go along. Next Update: Your 1901 Montreal Expos... |

A good idea
...keeping your payroll out of the top ten. I like it.
The same for trading restrictions....I allow myself one trade per year. How about editing players, for position changes? Will you allow that? I will sometimes edit computer teams, to move them along the defensive spectrum, to help their teams. |

I haven't thought about editing computer teams yet, I am curious as to what you mean by editing the computer teams to move them along defensively..
Thanks Jared |

I really like your idea of the salary cap rule also. I had never thought of doing such a thing, mixed in with Talent ratings only. Should be a good read!

Here's some ideas:
--Team's record and place in standings --Top hitter (s) and stats --Top pitcher (s) and stats --Notable performances in games, either by team or individuals That should be a good place to start from. |

April 1901
Here are the standings as of May 1st, 1901.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Montreal Transactions April 5th- Placed SP Daron Hartleben on the DL Called up SP Calvin Strauss from AAA April 8th- Signed RP Brady Grisso (released by ANA) to $500,000/1 contract April 11th- Sent OF Randall Katt to AAA Called up RP Brady Grisso from AAA April 14th- Sent RP Bobby Maciejeski to AAA Called up RP Jason Stenger from AAA April 22nd- Sent SP Geraldo Myers to AAA Activated SP Daron Hartleben from the DL Placed RP Jason Stenger on the DL Called up RP Jeffery Shealey April 25th- Signed RP Brady Grisso to a 2 year, $1 million contract extension. April 28th- Placed RP Jeffery Shealey on the DL. Called up RP Claude Wesseldine I will now focus on 6 players per month (AL and NL Player's and Pitchers of the month, as well as the Pitcher and Player of the month on my team. AL Player of the Month Adrian Oudant, KC. Adrian is a 19 year old left fielder from Detroit who was picked up by Kansas City in the 2nd round, 37th overall pick in the Initial Draft. During the month of April he hit .342 with 10 homeruns and 25 RBI. He leads the AL in Homeruns and is tied for the lead in RBI. Ironically, Oudant's first career hit (first hit of the season, since there are no previous career stats) came off of Cletus Armitage, the AL Pitcher of the Month. AL Pitcher of the Month Cletus Armitage, OAK. Cletus is a 21 year old starter from Cincinnati and was the 5th player taken in the Initial draft, by Oakland. Cletus went 5-0 (1 ND) with a sparkling ERA of 1.07 (4 Earned Runs in 33.2 Innings). He leads the AL in ERA and is currently the only 5 game winner in the AL. NL Player of the Month Cory Villafana, ATL. Cory, a native out of Fort Riley, Kansas was a 3rd round pick of the Atlanta Braves with 50 players being drafted before him. Many teams are now kicking themselves as Villafana got off to a good start in April hitting .386 with 9 HR and 25 RBI. His 9 HRs are tops in the NL but his 25 RBI are only good enough for a tie for 5th in the NL. He also is 2nd in batting average, so a triple crown is a possibility, though it is still early in the season. NL Pitcher of the Month Aldo Mouwerson, CHI. Aldo was drafted 9th in the Initial Draft, going to the Chicago Cubs. A native of Mt. Clements, Michigan, Aldo went 4-0 (2 ND) with an ERA of 1.45 (6 ER in 37.1 IP). His 4 wins are tops in the NL and his ERA is also the best in the National League. Expo Player of the Month Will Blakeman, 1B. Will was drafted by me to be a back up in the 22nd round to Thomas Denman. Although, much to my surprise, I started Will, and he never slowed down. He is 7th in the NL with a .361 average with 1 HR and 16 RBI. Expo Pitcher of the Month Calvin Strauss, SP. Calvin was drafted right after Will in the Initial Draft in the 23rd round. He was called up after #2 starter Daron Hartleben went down with an injury and was fantastic in his 6 games (5 starts). He went 3-0 with a 3.82 ERA (13 ER, 30.2 IP). His one relief appearance was against Colorado in a 14 inning game where every relief pitcher was used. Home Sweet Home -- The Expos started off the year 3-12 due to a schedule where they only had one 3 game series at home. The Expos are 3-12 on the road and 8-5 at home. The Expos' May schedule has 14 home games and 13 road games. |
