Manage Only
Why is the "manage only" option only available at the minor league levels?

I've always thought a manager mode on the major league level would be really fun. Try to persuade ownership to sign this guy and that guy but in the end it's the owner saying "heres what you got, good luck"
Obviously minor leagues this option is available but who wants to do that? Plus just when everything starts clicking your stars get promoted

And getting offers from Major League teams that wants to hire you. Get email offers like we do when negotiating with players but we are now at the receiving end of seeing offers from all the clubs. |

I know most people love all the GM aspects of the game, the trading, signing free agents, the draft etc etc. Not me. I just want to manage my teams games. Right now, I accomplish this by turning everything but lineups over to the AI. I play with what the AI gives me. I just wish that a manage only mode was available beyond the minors, so that getting fired or hired would be based entirely on my managing ability. In the long run, I doubt that Ron Washington can be blamed for Cliff Lee signing with the Phillies.
Probably impossible, but it would rock if there was a "manage only" mode and somehow it could take into account your history running teams and develop a evolving personality dynamic that could be used throughout the game. Example, are you Dusty Baker/Billy Martin type that leaves pitchers in way too long. A Captain Hook like Sparky Anderson. etc. |

I'll add my voice to the chorus in support of this option. I have thought for a while now that it might be nice to have more distinction in the game between the role of the GM and that of the manager on major league clubs.
For instance, it would be nice if when you worked for a major league club, you had the option to apply for either the manager position (in which case your only responsibility would be managing games), the GM position (in which case you would be responsible for transactions), or both (in which case your name would be listed under both positions). This could of course have other effects throughout the game. For example, you could have a manager of the year award as well as a GM of the year award. Just my

Hmm
I was really hoping this was an out of the 'box' feature of OOTP Baseball.
I stumbled upon this site looking for a comparable current game to an OLD game called Micro League Baseball which I was always very fond of... Here's hoping this is an unannounced feature of 12! |

This option is already there.....
Maybe not as a one button option on league creation, but it is there. Go to "Manager Options" and it's there in the "Team Control Settings". Leave "Setting Lineups/Depth/Pitching Staff" to yourself. Change the others to "Computer" or "Minor League Managers"..... and there you have it. You can even make it more interesting by say....having to do "Initiate and react to trades"...It's up to you. And it's there...."Out of the Box".

If you search on the forums you can find at least one very full thread on it. I sure it will come.....but I wouldn't hold your breath for this version. |

If you were the owner, you'd have to assume you had no other source of income, so all the money you have available is what you started the game with, plus anything you've managed to set aside. Running out of money could be catastrophic (ask Connie Mack). I would think you'd need special rules, like running out of money two years in a row gets you bounced out of the game, and smoke curls up out of your hard drive. |
