See the PEBA on $25 a Day Released!
Do you wake up in the middle of the night worrying about what to do with your back-up shortstop? Do you replay your games, and imagine you're actually in the stands behind the plate, crunching on Cracker Jack and peanuts and enjoying your beverage of choice? Is your league more real to you than the MLB?
Ever think someone should write a book about it? If so, this might be for you: ------------------------------------------------------------------- It's 2013 and the face of baseball has changed. The MLB is long-gone after imploding under the weight of the Juicing Wars and a bloody collective bargaining agreement fiasco that destroyed fan confidence, and into its place the Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance has sprung into existence. Casey Neal and his buddy Don-o are fresh-faced college graduates unencumbered by nasty commitments like summer jobs or girlfriends. On a lark they decide to tour every big-league park in the PEBA, and find themselves caught up in a dangerous web of intrigue and scandal that threatens the very heart of professional baseball itself. "See The PEBA on $25 a Day, the Diary of a Fresh-faced College Graduate" is a new novel by Ron Collins that follows Casey and Don-o through all their adventures. The book is available to the community for free at Smashwords (Smashwords - See the PEBA on $25 a Day - A book by Ron Collins) in the following formats:
Registration may be required. The eBook will also available on Amazon.com for $2.99, and print formats are also being explored. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Ron Collins grew up in the baseball Bermuda Triangle made up by Chicago, Cincinnati, and St. Louis. At various times has considered himself a fan of the Cubs, Reds, and Cardinals. Yes, the Cubs and the Cardinals. Go figure. He's been a baseball fan for as long as he can remember, which is longer than he would like to admit. He's been a member of the OOTP community for the past eight years, and has contributed several ideas to the game. He has published nearly 40 stories to professional science fiction publications including Analog, Asimov's, and Nature. His writing has received a Writers of the Future prize, and a CompuServe HOMer Award. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and has worked developing avionics systems, electronics, and information technology. He lives in Columbus, Indiana, with his wife, Lisa. The obligatory cat's name is Keiko. You can find out more about Ron at his website: Typosphere. -------------------------------------------------------------------- The PEBA is an Online OOTP league in operation at: The Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance - You're on stage. The story in this book is told in and around the 2013 season that is just now coming to a close. My thanks go to the commissioner (Corsairs) and the rest of the PEBA ownership for their support and encouragement in putting this project together. You might wander over and check them out! I cannot recommend this enough. Ron began releasing his story in installments, and they completely captivated the members of our league. Within the first few, we were all eagerly awaiting the next chapter of Casey and Don-O's road trip. At heart, it's a coming-of-age story, but it's a also a celebration of the timeless qualities that draw us all to the game of baseball. If you love the game, you're going to love See the PEBA on $25 a Day.
For members of the PEBA, the fact that See the PEBA on $25 a Day is set against the backdrop of the baseball world they have become so immersed in is just icing on the cake. Fortunately, you absolutely need not be familiar with the PEBA and it's fictional history to enjoy this story. See the PEBA on $25 a Day stands on its own and is accessible to everyone. If you are interested in learning more about the PEBA, I welcome you to browse through our News Archive to get a feel for what the league is about. For statistical background, visit our League Reports and StatsLab portal. As was noted in his post, writing is hardly a new gig for Ron. He is the author of numerous short stories and novellas, many of which have been published in magazines like Analog Science Fiction and Fact. Picasso's Cat & Other Stories is a collection of 15 of Ron's best stories and can be purchased online in numerous formats: I urge you to pick up a copy of Picasso's Cat & Other Stories. Not only will you be supporting an independent and talented writer, but you will be treating yourself to superlative speculative fiction. And tune into Typosphere, Ron's personal blog, where you can keep up to date on his latest works and musings.

Nice Ron!! Can't wait for Casy and Don-O to come the far east and check out some real baseball in the LRS. Those boys couldn't dream about what goes on in the League of the Sun. They wont get past Niihama and the "Ghostettes"

I have plans for the LRS, though they may have to wait just a little until I finish another project.
