eye/ Discipline vs. Avoid strikeouts
Shouldn't a players "eye/Discipline" rating determine on it's own how well a player can avoid strikeouts? Why the need for "avoid strikeouts" as a rating?

How would you account for the various player types, high walk / high k, high walk / low k, low walk / high k, low walk / low k, with just a single rating?
Adam Dunn, Albert Pujols, Alfonso Soriano, Placido Polanco. |

Eye: the ability of the hitter to discern between balls and strikes; strikezone judgement.
Avoid K's: the ability of the hitter to make contact (of any quality) with the ball once he decides to swing; hand-eye coordination. |

It's a problem based on old design techniques, a desire to have an actual rating for batting average (which is really not needed, it turns out), and the desire to latch ratings to common english terms. In a more ideal world: Eye/Discipline = knowledge of the strike zone (walks), Contact = Number of Balls in Play (avoid K), and BABIP (well, BABIP) ... and the three, along with Power (Home Runs), would merge to result in batting average. But for several reasons it doesn't work quite like that. I think, anyway. It's always possible V11 fundamentally changed this and I'm just out of it.
