Here's what I'd like to do...

Guys, thanks so much for the help you've already given me...

When I go to start up my first league, what I'd like to do is come in as a fictional expansion team within the MLB model. I was thinking of just taking the 2010 MLB teams/stats, and expanding the league -- which I think would mean there'd be a 2nd team generated by the program to even things out.

I want to try to build my team from scratch, and compete against the big boys.

First, is this feasible...

Second, should I begin by creating/joining a completely different league as manager to get a feel first for what is involved, then maybe just scrapping that league once I feel comfortable, and then starting the league with me as an expansion team?

And, I see a lot of talk here about mods, etc. How important is it -- and will I know when -- to stay on top of new updates, patches, etc? Not really sure what all is involved with mods.

Thanks!

Yes, you can have a fictional expansion to an MLB league. Probably the easiest way is to start a New 2010 Major League game, then sim through the 2010 season and expand in the offseason after the 2010 season. I think the expansion function is somewhere in the league setup and I imagine it is only available during the offseason and preseason (i.e. before spring training).

Mods are completely up to you. If you want custom schedules or old timey baseball cards or different logos, that is up to you. There isn't anything you need; it's mostly different versions of the same things that are available in the main game and the All-In-One mod.

I would encourage you to keep up with patches in the future. The game generally releases a new version around the start of the baseball season, then patches 2-3 times throughout the summer. There won't be any more patches for v11, so you should be set for now.

Good Luck!

thanks, TribeFan. If I sim thru the 2010 season like you suggest, do you have any suggestions on what should I be looking at in sim mode to learn the ropes a bit, so i know a bit more for the 2011 season when I'd be looking to take over a new team?
