Massive rating swings

Is it typical for young players with both high potential and actual ratings for their ratings to plummet after scouting? In our league, in the 4th season, one of my brothers best players went from 70ish rating and 79 potential to 40 rating and 40 potential.

Is this to be expected and does anyone know the cause? I wouldn't mind it if there is a logical reason behind it.

What are your league's overall and potential ratings based on? If they depend on statistics to a great deal, a poor season or start to a season could lead to a reduction in their OVR and POT, even though the underlying ratings haven't changed.

If ratings are based on the scout's evaluations, keep two things in mind: 1) Scouts can change their minds about a guy after seeing him play some more, and this may mean that they no longer think a guy is as good as originally thought; and 2) Scouts can be wrong.

Ratings don't mean much to me once a guy hits the Majors. If he's hitting .300 or has a sub 3.00 ERA, that means he's good regardless of what the scout or the ratings say.

was the player injured? if so some injuries can lead to permanent loss of ratings.

make sure you pay attention to both your scout and the osa or whatever it is that comes up when you click on bnn.
