A-Fraud - the 3rd steroid user to reach 600 HR's - definitely breaking news.

Damn, I was hoping this was a Hank Aaron thread. Or Willie Mays. Or Mickey Mantle, but I guess he never quite got there.

Atleast Frank Thomas 500+ HR & Ken Griffey Jr 630 HR probably didnt do it on steroids. sosa , big mac palmeiro and of course A-Fraud should be banned and their stats wiped from the record books

It was on page 11 of the sports page, next to the local bridge results.

I can understand this. I remember lambasting Bonds here, and McGwire, Sosa, and other cheaters like them, so I cannot be celebrating A-Fraud's accomplishment. I just read that his own steroids era was three seasons and 156 homers by his own admission. Those should be wiped and he should be struggling to reach 500 in a couple years, maybe.

That said, as a Yankees fan I'm glad it's over. What a head case this guy is. You just knew that he was going to labor and stew trying to get to this milestone. As his performance and mood got worse (he was 0-17 before the HR*), it looked like it was affecting the whole team - they just lost 5 out of 6 and let the Rays knock them out of first. Probably just my imagination about it affecting the team, but it has to be a relief to them anyway to get this over. It is for this fan, too.

*EDIT - Just to clarify: "Rodriguez went 9 for 46 (.196) after homering on July 22, the longest stretch between Nos. 599 and 600 for any of the seven to reach the mark. He was hitless in his last 17 at-bats."

Wish he had waited another few days to get it though.

the sad thing about Alex Rodriguez is he will be the 2nd known PED user to make the hall of fame...bonds will make it based on what he did prior to 73 hr and a rod will make it based on what he did prior to and post rangers....maybe arod only did use steroids for 3 seasons just like mcgwire took steroids for health reasons

I'm just shocked that so many people are confident that Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron were not on some version of PEDs. Steroids have been around forever.

Forgot, "growing hat size" Barry Bonds in that banning.

Good news, A-Rod hitting #600. Now, ESPN can get back to Favre retirement discussions, and poker tournaments.

Booze isnt widely thought of as a PED.

I think steroids as we know them came about post-WWII, if I remember. So, you could probably make an argument on AAron on that (2nd half of his career at least). Ruth, would be a colossal reach.

I do believe Mays admitted to stimulants (I think greenies or something) so that might be the way for your argument to proceed.

You don't think Roger Clemens is going to make the Hall of Fame?

I think sooner or later Baseball writers will wise up and realize steriods don't help players hit homeruns and start to allow these players in.
