How can I set this up?
Here is what I want to do, and I can't quite figure it out....
I would like to start a historical league in 1871 but I want to expand the league and change names on my own terms, not automatically. I think I have this part figured out. Also, and more importantly, I want the schedule to be 162 games every year and have the team strategies and league wide stats use the year 2000 settings. I'm OK with adding some fictional players in the early years to round out rosters if I need to. Is this possible to set up? I want to replay the history of baseball, but I want to be able to directly compare stats from one generation to the next, which is why I want every season to run under the settings of the year 2000 (or whatever arbitrary year I choose). If anybody can explain it, please note that I never ran a historical league before, so the more specific you can be on where to go to change settings, the better. Thanks!!!

Why don't you start off with the 1871 settings and see how the players did in real life compared to your universe. You already have the baseline...real world. Starting out in 1871 is very different. Lots of errors and the pitchers have the endurance to go all season. That is what I did, now in 1880.

to change the settings for a specific year and to enjoy those factors:
(instructions for OOTPX, I assume 11 is probably the same) Go to Game Setup\League Setup\Strategy= Then 'Select which settings to import' and go with 2001 or whatever you want all years to represent. Uncheck both Historical Modifiers & Totals Options Next go to the Options tab= Make sure you uncheck: 'Automatically expand league' 'Automatically adjust League Strategy' 'Automatically adjust league total modifiers' Make sure you check: 'Allow ghost players' Change the number of games or make sure it is set at 162 games under 'Schedule Options' still located within the Options tab. If you change the number of games then go to: Go to Game Setup\League Setup\Functions tab 'Edit League Structure' and 'Regenerate Schedule' so each team gets a new schedule. That should do it. Not sure what kind of issues you might have with 2000 factors in 1880, but there may be some problems with utilizing bullpens, starting pitchers not lasting as long -- and running out of players. Should be interesting.

You'll need fictional players to make it work, I'm guessing. I doing something similar what will have the modifiers and what not change automatically to replicate the evolution of the game historically.

You will need to keep in mind, the 1870's baseball, teams had only a couple of people on the bench and only one pitcher. Pitchers pitched underhanded (overhand was not allowed) and nobody had gloves. No minors either. What you will end up with will not have any valid historical stats to use in comparison. Pitchers with 0-31 records, and fielders with 200+ errors. It will be like comparing American Football to English Football.

You will definitely have to create some free agents, especially pitchers, and then put them on teams. Some teams did use more than one pitcher but 95% of the innings went to one pitcher. You may also try using fielders in each game as pitchers since some could pitch.
