Bob Probert dead
Initial reports only. Apparently he collapsed while out boating. Can't help wondering if drugs were involved.

EDIT: Revised statement for accuracy and provided link to the story at WDIV (Detroit 4) News.
He was boating on Lake St. Clair and complained of chest pains before he collapsed. CPR was attempted, but revival was unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead at Windsor regional hospital (Windsor, Ontario, Canada). Man, 45 years old. Way too young to die.

It's really sad, and makes you think about your own mortality when you're near his age, like I am.
Gah. ![]() RIP, Bob. |

His 87-88 season was epic. One goal shy of 30 and a minor penalty away from 400 PIM. He was pretty fun to watch. Unless you were an opposing goalie.

That caught me by surprise when I heard it and left me feeling oddly sad about it. I was in the stands during the first Troy Crowder vs. Probert fight and I think Bob took the worst of it and got busted up. For about the next two seasons Crowder became a marked man for every other goon in the league.

Update: autopsy shows no sign of foul play, but the authorities are not releasing any other details, as that information has to come from the family.
Any toxicology results will not be available for weeks or months. Source: Probert autopsy shows no foul play Last edited by RandyTiger; 07-06-2010 at 03:11 PM. |
