An icon from my youth gone. What a wonderful life he had.

![]() We're often so tempted to look at rich, self-centered celebrities and become envious of them. But John Wooden really is the epitome of a great success. He was the very best at his profession, and also was an extremely nice person who taught others how to live the right way. You can't be much better than that.

RIP
He is one person that will be hard for humanity to replace. After 25 years, he can once again be with his beloved wife.

His "Pyramid of Success" is a very worthy read. His leadership theory was pretty simple. Lead by example. Character and integrity actually mean something.
I always loved the famous Bill Walton story about how Bill told Coach Wooden he wanted to wear his beard, and Coach Wooden said, "Gee we're really going to miss you this season, Bill." Walton shaved and a point was made, no man is above the team. Thing is, they probably would have won the title without Walton. I wouldn't trade ten Bill Belichick's or Nick Saban's for one John Wooden.
