The Revenge of Borkholder, Part I

April 5, 1959

Curtis Borkholder, the lefty that had toiled in the minors for five years, had recently retired and become a scout. After being fired from that job, Borkholder unretired and headed back to Rochester for his sixth season there, but all of a sudden he read something in the paper.

Sunday 4/5/1959:

Curtis Borkholder was promoted from AAA to the active roster.
Harry Stanek was sent down from the active roster to AAA.

On the way back to the big club, Borkholder met up with Stanek for the first time in five years... and Stanek shot Borkholder in the face, cutting his comeback short.

Would Borkholder live to see another major league game? Find out next time on The Revenge of Borkholder, Part II.

I shot Curtis Borkholder in Reno just to watch him die.

While this is technically in bad taste given recent events, it made me laugh so it doesn't matter.

Perhaps it's living in a country where every newscast has reports of people being shot over next to nothing, we don't even notice that jokes like that can upset people. We're just so used to it, and all.

Yeah, I appreciate that. It doesn't bother me either, I can take a joke.

Eh, it's ok, I just thought I should point it out in case someone thought you were being tasteless.

RIP Curtis Borkholder. Died like he lived, for no good reason at all.
