Historical FaceGen Setup Question - Emergency!

I hope someone can answer this quick, cause I'm in the middle of setting up a league now and at the step where I have a question.

While setting up a historical league, during step 5, it askes about player pictures, with the options of "No Fictional Pictures" or "All Players." Which one do I set this on to take advantage of the historical FaceGen pictures downloaded through "Add on Central?"

If someone could help me with this really quick, I'd owe you big time. I've been trying to get these FaceGen pictures to work since the 12th.

Mine is set to 'No Fictional Pictures', and I am using the historical facegen addon.
I believe these settings are strictly used for facegens that OOTP generates.

Thanks, I'll go with that.

The FaceGen feature doesn't seem to be working as it should for historical leagues, the only way to get the Facegen images to show seems to be deleting any player photos you have so that the game has no choice but to read the Facegen.

It's working for you in historical leagues?

Yes, the historical facegens add on is working in my historical league. But, I don't have any photos right now, so I don't know if it would work with the photos.

Tried the setting you said robc, and I'm still getting photos instead of FaceGen images. Damn this is frustrating. I'm going to stop with my comments here, because I've wasted another day trying to get these to work, and anything further from me will get me in trouble, I'm sure.

I see, yeah the issue seems to be if people have Facegens and photos. By default, the game is supposed to read the Facegen first and then a photo if there's no Facegen available but it seems to be doing the exact opposite for historical leagues.

Has anyone tried to set it to look for photos first to see if FaceGen images come up? (I just tried, and no, that doesn't work either.) Wasn't this tested at all?

It's not really an emergency for this reason:

When the bug gets fixed, the game will automatically look for FaceGen data files to use, if there isn't a FaceGen picture already in the Images folder. And it will also use such a picture first, rather than a photo, once a FaceGen picture is in the Images Folder. It is possible for there to be a FaceGen picture and a photo for the same guy in the Images Folder without the game getting confused ... when the bug has been fixed.

There may be some workarounds for people who simply can't wait. The only thing I can think of would be to temporarily move your photos folder somewhere else, and trash any photos in your images folder. And see what happens.

Has anyone actually got this to work? If so can you describe in detail how to do it? Thanx.

Actually, that workaround appears to work (around )

Trash all of the photos in the Images Folder for that league. Move the photo folder somewhere else, so that league doesn't have access to it. Make sure you reboot the league, then you should get FaceGen pictures if they are in the fg_files folder. Then move the photo folder back, reboot the game again, and you should get a mix of photos and FaceGen pictures. It seems to be "sticky" as well -- that is, it seems to survive rebooting the league.

It does suggest what the problem is.

Followed those steps and it worked for me. Only took like 5 minutes so no big deal really. Keith Hernandez facegen is kind of freaking me out because it looks so real.

Is there a step by step write-up for how to get this mod to work? I've got the faces in the fg folder. Now what do I do? I've read the posts in this thread and none of them seem to be specific enough. It seems I must be missing something simple.

FaceGen For Dummies

Since OOTP 11 was released I have seen many posts and confusion about FaceGen, Fictional pictures, and getting it all to work correctly. Apparently there is a bug that is affecting all of this which SteveP said would be corrected in a patch.

I think that first of all we should define what we are talking about:

In the past few years of OOTP the FaceGen program was used to create "fake" player pictures.

Additionally, this year FaceGen pictures have been created by many people over at the SoxxCountry website using a program called FaceGen Modeller, which creates FaceGen pics that look like "real life" players based on their real photos. These have been made available in two mods (H.F.P. Historical Facegens, and H.F.P. 2010 MLB All-In-One) which can be downloaded within the game using OOTP > Add Ons Central. Make sure you have Padresfan's server listed in order to download the mods.

Here is his website Main

So lets get the names straight:

Fake player pictures for fake players, generated within OOTP = let's call Fictional Pictures.

Player pictures that look like real players, generated by people using the FaceGen Modeller Program = let's call FaceGen pictures.

I was able to get both H.F.P. mods to work by the following:

Install OOTP 11
Import a Fictional OOTP 10 League into OOTP 11.
Start the Fictional League in OOTP 11
Within the Game go to OOTP > Add Ons Central > click on reload server list
Download both H.F.P. mods
Install both mods
Restart the game
Setup a new MLB 2010 season - restart the game - you should be all set with FaceGen pics.
Setup a new quick start All Time Greats season - restart the game - you should be all set with FaceGen pics.

Just make sure that OOTP Preferences > Facegen > Facegen enabled is chosen. Don't worry about the settings in Game Setup > Player & Picture Options > Fictional Picture Options. These settings only affect Fictional "Fake" players.

I think the bug comes into play so to speak, when setting up a Historical League. For whatever reason, it pulls in Photos instead of the FaceGen pics.

Anyway, this is my understanding of the problem which I figured out through trial and error. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I was talking about historical leagues. That's where I was having the problem, along with everyone else. There is no problem with the MLB 2010 quickstart.

I feel your pain. I wasted some time trying to get it to work too. Eventually I just reinstalled and only installed the historical facegens without any photos. I am going to start a 'real' league now and try SteveP's work around. Don't worry, Markus and team will get this squared away so it isn't such a pain.

Ok, thanks SteveP. This seems to have worked. I'm getting both FaceGen and player photos now after following your directions in your post. I was wondering what you thought might happen after the draft of historical players each season. Do you think those drafted players will enter using their FaceGen images or their real photos?

My apologies guys, I meant my post above to be a new thread for people just getting into the FaceGen thing. I realize it doesn't address the problem with Historical Leagues, which it sounds like you now have a workaround.

SteveP if you can move my post to a new thread that would be great.
