Once you have your "perfect" fictional league setup......
I'd encourage you to save it as a quickstart, and have Padresfan post it on his site. We don't have enough of those.

I don't know Padresfan but if he wants to put this on his site he can.
It's called the North American Baseball Association. The minor league cities are not necessarily smaller than their parent clubs' cities. For example, Atlanta, Kansas City, and Cleveland are AA cities. That's because before becoming the American Developmental League it was known as the Baseball League of America and was THE major baseball league. The United League of Professionals and the Grand Premier League were independent leagues that formed with the goal of becoming minor leagues. Then there was that dark day in baseball history that ruined it all for the BLA. Derek Roetger, manager of the Chicago Stones at the time, along with Sal Keijersmit, manager of the Atlanta Storms, and Jerod Purpelli, GM of the Atlanta Storms, resigned from their positions and held a press conference that turned the baseball world upside down. They claimed that managers of the teams in the BLA had been betting on games and conspiring with each other for over 20 years to fix games. Not only that, but they claimed over 70% of team owners knew about it and even encouraged it. Several days after the announcement, Derek Roetger's body was found in a field outside of Dwight, IL. Keijersmit and Purpelli have not been seen since, it is assumed they are either dead or in the witness protection program. That press conference was the beginning of the end for the BLA. After that, there was a lot of movement. Teams switched leagues, owners sold players for cash, some owners were forced to sell due to low attendance, and some owners had to sell because the league president ordered them to. The ULOP and GPL, with support of the hugely popular Mexican League, took advantage of the chaos and joined forces to become the NABA. Almost all of the talent that left the crumbling BLA came running to the new league. The NABA then agreed to a deal with the BLA that would allow them to continue as a AA level minor league of NABA so they changed the name to the American Developmental League, As a result, there may be some 40,000+ seat facilities at the AA level. (I didn't edit the ballparks or seating or anything, so that's just part of the story) The Mexican League, which was abused by the former BLA, agreed to become the AAA league of the NABA in exchange for territorial rights in Mexico and a percentage of NABA revenue. The AAA Mexican League has a huge following among fans in Central America and the Caribbean. This is the NABA's inaugural season. (actually I just used google maps and picked locations semi-randomly, but I like that story) major league - NABA -contains two leagues, each with east/west divisions, with each division having one non-US team -United League of Professionals -Grand Premier League -start date is May 1 -142 games -typical series length is 4 games -minimum service years for FA was supposed to be 8 years but I messed up and is only 6 years -3 rounds of playoffs. Division Series (best of nine), League Series (best of nine), Championship Series (best of nine) AAA - Mexican League -4 divisions with teams all over Mexico -typical series length is 5 games -start date is April 1 -120 games -3 rounds of playoffs. musica.com Champions Series 1 (best of seven), Jarritos Champions Series 2 (best of seven), Mexican League Champion Series (best of seven) AA - American Developmental League -4 divisions with teams all over US (no Can/Mex) -typical series length 3 games -start date is May 5 -120 games -3 rounds of playoffs. Rawlings Champions Series 1 (best of five), ESPN3.com Champions Series 2 (best of five), Pepsi ADL Championship Series (best of seven) Rookie - Southern League -2 divisions, the Dixie and the Midwest -typical series length is 3 games -start date is June 20 -68 games -A 5 game series between division winners determines the Southern League Champion Jerseys, caps, and logos are included. I used logos from cephasjames collection to make the custom uniforms. NABA.zip - 25.14MB |

Mine is almost ready, I just need to add stadiums for the last couple teams. 90 teams, no minors, set financials based on population. Payrolls range from hundreds of millions to a couple dozen million. Small teams have won the World Series but have to rely mainly on young, drafted talent (no arbitration). The biggest teams can afford to bench $20 million / year guys if they stop producing.
This setup killed OOTP X, but 11 can handle it without crashing (so far) or getting bogged down. |
