quickstart draft and expansion

Have a quick question.. I'm gonna start a quick start season and expand the next yr. is it better to set up expansion teams right after free agency starts and also, whats the best way to do the first year player draft cause I want my expansion teams in on it. any suggestions? thanks in advance

It's best to expand right after the World Series, or your leagues equivalent of.

As to the First-Year draft, just have it happen anytime after you add the expansion teams and they'll be a part of it. So... say your season ends on Oct. 9th. Expand your league, the expansion draft will happen 2 days later(if you have an expansion draft) and if your draft is any time after Oct. 9th they'll be apart of it.

If you're talking about the initial draft for your league though, then no, only the starting teams will be a part of that.

thank you for the reply. I was talking about the first year player draft. not the initial draft to draft all the players on different teams.

It's no problem man. Generally it gets referred to as "amateur draft" so I get easily confused when it's referred to as something else..

From my experience it is best to expand the league after all post season awards are handed out. That is when that season is finally closed out. If you expand before this, I have seen it mess up the league history pages, where the expansion teams show up in the previous year's standings with a 0-0 record. No big deal, but it is a mess easily avoided.

my preference is to expand in the offseason. That way I don't end up with the new teams sitting with a 0-0 .500 record in the almanac for the previous season.

When does the game reset the league standings and such? I always assumed it didn't do it until preseason started. Regardless I've never seen it mess up a league's history like that as long as you expand right after the season ends, which I include post-season in as, to me, the season doesn't "end" until no more baseball is played. But that's just semantics.

I'd wait til FA starts to expand. Otherwise (unless this was changed - I haven't checked in ages) you'll have upcoming FAs in the expansion draft pool, which can be confusing. In any case there's really no reason not to wait, and by expanding the day FAs file, expansion teams can participate in free agency and in the Rule 5 draft.

One last question that I thought of.

would it make a difference, after expansion, if you have the amateur draft before or after Jan 1 due to finances resetting?
