We will go into the 1969-1970 offseason this week and at that point we will convert to OOTP10.

Looking for a Pittsburgh Pirates owner.

You'll have a team that went 86-76 and finished just 4 games back in the NL East this season. They are led by starting ace Bob Veale (18-8) and rookie offensive star Ron "Boomer" Blomberg.

Come check us out!

The Pirates have been filled but now I have one more opening.

The California Angels were just one game from the World Series this year. If you want a winning team with a win now mentality, this is the team for you. They have been dealing future draft picks for now talent for years. At some point this may catch up to them but for now you've got a great franchise. Led by ace starter Jim Merritt and slugging outfielder Ken "Hawk" Harrelson, this club will certainly not disappoint in star power. Also, you'll have situations such as this one:

Thursday, September 18th, 1969: Rose Must Sit Out 7 Games
California second baseman Pete Rose was ejected in the game between the Angels and Senators for letting loose a profanity-laced tirade against the home plate umpire after some calls didn't go the way he wanted. Rose was incensed in the loss to Washington and was just as angry after the game.

"These guys are a joke. How can people expect to take this game seriously when you have games like this?" Rose said in the locker room after the game.

Now Rose must face the consequences of this actions. League officials released this brief statement to the media: "We are regretful that Rose has taken this to the level that it has reached. The league will not tolerate this type of conduct. Due to his actions during and after the game, the league is suspending him for 7 games."

This year Rose is hitting .321 with 157 hits, 1 home run, 45 RBIs and has scored 65 runs.

We just ended the 1970 season and are now going into the draft and offseason for 1971. We seem to have three openings, so this is a great time to get into one of the best historical league with twists out there.

Baltimore Orioles: 78-84, 15 games back in the AL East
The Orioles have several stars, highlighted by CF Paul "Motormouth" Blair, 1B Al Oliver, and rookie sensation SP Bill Gogolweski.

Los Angeles Dodgers: 75-87, 23 games back in the NL West
Los Angeles has been a proud team up until recently. They have a ton of talent actually, so this isn't a full rebuild by any means. Catfish Hunter just finished up a great year on the hill, and outfielder Willie Crawford is one of the game's most exciting stars.

Houston Astros: 68-94, 30 games back in the NL West
The first GM who sticks around in Houston for more than a year will be the first GM to do that. This team is in serious need of a long-termer. Last year they were a surprise playoff team, this year they completely crashed. The cupboard isn't bare, though. Rusty Staub and Rick Monday make up two thirds of a top notch outfield, and Japanese import Masiachi "The Emperor" Kaneda remains one of the league's top hurlers.

We do exciting things like bring in Japanese and Mexican imports from time to time. This year we're also starting to use Sean Lehman's AWESOME addition to Baseball-Reference.com by allowing GM's to use their Participation Points to import minor league players who never made the bigs. We're using the Minor League Equivalency Calculator to figure our ratings and the like, you can read about that on our forums, which you'll have to PM me with the name you registered with in order to be approved to join our forums.

We look forward to adding three awesome owners to what is one of the best GM groups in all of OOTP-land!!!

We actually had an internal switch to the Astros, so now it's the Dodgers and California Angels that we're looking to fill.

The ORB2 is now FULL, but we're still accepting new people to come on board as a "vulture", check things out, and be waiting in the wings if an opening happens.

We do have 4 GM's on probation this year, so there's a chance we might have an opening or two by the AS Break next year (I hope not, but it's a possibility).

Well, we made it through the 1971 season (almost done) with just one opening. One of our guys is GETTING MARRIED, so he's stepping down. The team is the Kansas City Royals, in their third year since expansion.

The Royals are 50-68, far out of first place. They are in many regards still an expansion team. This club definitely needs a GM who will give this club the time and dedication it needs to become a "real team".

Honestly, there are no players to get excited about here. The roster reads like an expansion roster would.

Can you be the guy to turn this team around??? Read the instructions in the top post of this thread.

We found our Royals GM!! Now, it's looking as if we need a new guy for the Baltimore Orioles.

The Orioles are actually not really that bad off. They are just 6 games out right now and with an active GM, they'd be right in the thick of the AL East race.

Don Wilson leads their fairly deep starting rotation, he's about to pick up his 20th victory of the season. Jerry Cram is having an awesome year as the Birds closer. Al Oliver is the undisputed offensive star of this club, though rookie Mike Ivie is having a solid rookie year at a position (third base) that has few stars in this league.

See the instructions in the top post of this thread if you're interested in coming on board with one of the top historical leagues in our community!

PS- Don Wilson just picked up the AL Walter Johnson (Cy Young) Award (which is slightly embarassing for our "stat" cred as Gary Nolan had just a huge season overall but Wilson had the wins....our GM's are pretending they are real awards voters, I suppose).

I loves me the ORB2...

If you're into a writing league this is one of the best ones I've seen. We're also entering a great time period as so many OOTP players grew up watching the baseball of the 70s and 80s, so now you can own those teams!

Zep
ORB2 - Oakland Athletics
1970 Jackie Robinson Award - Bert Blyleven
1971 Jackie Robinson Award - Ben Oglivie

1970 - 77-85
1971 - 95-67 (with the lowest payroll in baseball)

The California Angels are off to a 13-9 start this year, good for 1st place in the American League Western Division. Rookie starter Rick Reuschel has been the big difference for the Angels this far. Offensively slugger Dick Nen and contact hitters Enos Cabell and Matty Alou are leading the way.
