The readme in the .rar is pretty straightforward about the program, along with a caution to back up a few existing base 'patterns.' After your review, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

If you have any questions, I'm around the forums fairly frequently but you can PM me as well.

I'm pretty sure you can do more hair colors, but then you'd have to match up all the beards (assuming you wanted that color to be allowed beards). What I mean is that if you add a strawberry blonde hair color (#6) then you have to create all the beards for strawberry blonde. I think the game will accept it if you don't, it's just that every strawberry blonde player will be clean shaven since there's no beard_87_6_pornstar.png file. Did any of that help?

Yes, that did help quite a bit. I know that facegen has long hair options in it's full blown versions, but that' not really needed here. I was fooling around with some of the files and got one to actually have a receding hairline. I guess what I am looking for is some guidance on which files do what and which can be altered and how, in order to have some variety. Maybe gray temples and some gray in the beard for guys with mostly red, brown or black hair or some sporting bangs or middle hair parts. I'm just not sure how it all works. Thank you very much for your response.

The two files types that I worked with were the short_#_#.png ones which do the hair on the top of the head and the beard_#_#_name.png ones which do the beard. The hair one wraps around the head from about the nose on up. You can see the "tails" in the file that are the sideburns. I started out by drawing bold colored lines on the existing file and seeing where that landed on a typical guys face. The beard files go from about nose to halfway down the chin.
The problem with both files is that they are distorted when they're put on the 3D model. So, you have to draw an extra thick moustache to have it look normal on the head. Drawing bold colored lines on the existing one is a good way to see what areas of the png file get distorted how. I suppose you could mess with some of the other files in there (the skin colors and textures for example) but I've not attempted that.
