Help! Problem with contracts and trading.

Started a historical league from 1970 on.
Using default finacial system.
By the 2nd season, cannot trade with any team as they are ALL in the negative for trading/contracts cash.
For example, cant trade a $55000 contract player for a $67000 contract player because of $12000 difference and both teams budgets in the negative.
This started during the last free agent signings, when all teams overpaid for players.
Again for example, at start of league max salary for "Superstar" was $600,000, yet Willie Startgel gets $1.4 mil fper year for or 5 years?
Please help as this is my fav part of game and making it impposible.

Yeah, OOTP doesn't always handle the first few years real well, especially in regards to finances. Some might say it doesn't handle any finances well. But that's another story.

There are a few manual things you can do fiddle with this, like adjust the contracts down, adjust some revenue stream up (like media), or just give each team some starting capital to smooth this over. I think you can even manually adjust the budgets in commish mode if you just want to work around that part. I tend to just give teams cash because it's easy, but there is probably a better solution.

Maybe somebody has some more constructive advice about settings to apply (like the cash max or something).

That's not a "max," it's more an average and the amount of cash flow in the league will affect contract demands as well.
