1966 Atlanta Braves - Baseball Moves To The South
When Lou Perini sold the Milwaukee Braves to William Bartholomay in 1962 it was no secret that the city of Milwaukee was going to be without an MLB team before too long, it wasn't a question of if, it was a question of when. The ink wasn't even dry when Bartholomay, an insurance magnate from Chicago, was looking for larger television markets around the country so that he could relocate the Braves. The Milwaukee Braves hold the distinction of being the only MLB team to date to play in one city for more than one year and never posting a losing record, but the TV market wasn't the size that Bartholomay was looking for. Up stepped the city of Atlanta, led by Mayor Ivan Allen who in an effort to bring the Braves to the fast-growing Southern city, built Atlanta Stadium, an $18 million, 52,000 seat stadium in less than a year. The city of Atlanta had previously tried to get the A's to relocate from Kansas City, but to no avail. So in 1965, it was announced that the Braves would leave Milwaukee and head south Atlanta, but an injunction was filed in the state of Wisconsin which kept the Braves up north for one more season. Finally in 1966, the Braves packed up and moved to Atlanta, their new home.
Which is where you come in. Greetings all, I have tried and tried dynasties that never worked. I usually try an MLB dynasty with the current Braves, but never follow through with it. This time I thought I'd go back in time a little and start from day 1 in Atlanta. My dad grew up in the 50's and would always tell me about watching Mickey Mantle on Saturday's on his black and white TV and I grew up in the 80's where I would watch, with my dad, Dale Murphy on TBS. So I thought that I'd split the difference and start in 1966, the Braves inaugural season in Atlanta. In their final season in Milwaukee, the Braves finished 86-76, in 5th place, 11 games behind the NL Pennant winning LA Dodgers. What I'm hoping to do is continue the Braves' winning ways with names like Aaron and Matthews so please sit back and enjoy the ride! STARTING PITCHERS ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THE BULLPEN ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THE LINEUP ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The final rosters aren't set yet, I believe I have 24 players listed above. The reason for that is because I've set the amateur draft (real players, full draft) to take place on March 1, instead of in June. There isn't much depth in the minors so I'm hoping that with the influx of draftees I can build the minors up a little bit. I don't know if this will change in the coming years, but that's what we're going to this year.

I am no stranger to these boards and posting my dynasty reports, the problem is that I start out strong and then fizzle out (sounds like my wife should be making a smart comment here). As you can see from my other dynasties: My Fictional Carolina Pines, My Cooperstown League Baltimore Orioles Dynasty, My Jack Nicklaus 6 Fictional Golf Dynasty, My NASCAR 3 - Winston Cup ReWritten 1990 Dynasty and there are others out there from Total College Basketball to Front Office Football, it's INSANE. The problem is that I get way too involved in creating spreadsheets and logos and newspaper articles via Microsoft Publisher that it becomes a chore and not very much fun because I play a game and then I have 100 things to do before I can proceed. Now don't get me wrong I love spreadsheets and creating formulas and storylines, but it does take its toll and I'm afraid that my dynasties are the ones that suffer.
I have been a fan of these forums for years now and like many of you I have enjoyed following Big Six's Pat O'Farrell Dyansty and cknox0723's Pale Hose Dynasty and all the other great dynasties that the OOTP community has brought to life with their vivid and wonderful imaginations. I don't think I could ever be as eloquent or as humorous with my writing, but I really want to try and make a dynasty last. More importantly I want it to always be fun. I started this Braves dynasty in the year 1966 and really want to take it through a number of seasons. In order to do that I need to kind of scale back on the amount of extra work that I usualy incorporate into my dynasties. I play out all the games so a season takes a long time and with a child on the way the games may be even fewer and far between, but nevertheless I'll need my moments of escape once my son arrives and I'm sure that I'll run to OOTP. Anywho, I plan on posting updates every few days, simple posts that will keep everyone up to speed on the happenings in the league, but nothing that will take more than a few minutes. I will of course do year-end stuff as well, but darn it I want this to be enjoyable. Please bear with me and my ramblings and please keep me on track if I start to go astray. Thanks and enjoy! Funny that I'm posting this now and leaving soon for a baby shower so I won't be playing OOTP today, maybe tomorrow!
