Thrown out at First from Right Field

Does this happen in OOTP? If not it should happen on a very rare occassion.

If the runner is to far off first then it's possible but very rare.

I've seen this only a handful of times IRL. Typically on a line shot to right by a very slow hitter. I haven't seen it in any version of OOTP covering hundreds of games. But now that I think about it, I've probably seen as many major league games since the last time I saw it there.

Ernie Lombardi used to tell a story where he was thrown out from the left field wall at the Baker Bowl.

I was at a game where Bo Diaz NEARLY got thrown out at first on a sharp ground ball past the third baseman that rolled all the way to the wall.....

He decided to go for two (which my grandma coulda done on this hit), but halfway there decided he'd better not. Safe by a hair.....

There are a number of RL baseball plays that are less rare than this, but which OOTP does not include as yet. I started a list of these while playing OOTP9. There are still some bigger issues -- like the bunting game -- that need to be addressed first, but I certainly hope that at some point we can get more unusual plays included.

I once saw Bill Brasky play a ball off the wall in right-center then run the ball in to tag the batter out on the way to first. Later that night the batter died of embarrassment so Bill Brasky raised the man's children as his own. I still call him "Dad."

To Bill Brasky

Bill Brasky!

A couple weeks ago J.D. Drew forced a guy out at home plate on a line drive to Right Field with the bases loaded.... needless to say I was impressed

Has anyone seen a right fielder throw out a batter at first base and take away a base hit?

Like when the batter hit a line drive, the right fielder gets it on one hop and throws him out at first.

A 9-3 play.

I seem to remember Jason Phillips hitting into a 9-3 force play. He couldn't leg out even singles!

I've actually seen it 3 or 4 times over the years in the majors. Usually a strong armed RF and a slow runner at bat. I think sometime around the mid '90s was the last time I saw it happen.

It tends to happen in the National League when the pitcher is batting and he hits it to right field.....because pitchers tend not to run as hard as position player mainly because they don't want to get hurt running the bases and not be able to pitch......"on a side not this is one reason why the NL should adopt the DH!!!!!!!!!"

I've seen it happen to a couple of position players - but it's been years and the names escape me at this point.

Well in MLB '05 I used to hit into 2 9-3 ground outs a game. But, the makers of that game had absolutely no concept of baserunning speed.

In OOTP no.

Never happened to me. But, I was a left-handed hitter who always hit to LF and occasionally CF (I couldnt pull a ball to save my life) So, that really would be embarassing.

Actually, it was adopt the DH so my pitcher wont be Chien-Ming Wanged.

I do have to admit getting your pitcher hurt while running bases seems as useful as getting your star QB hurt covering punts.
