Adding Leagues after the fact

Is there a way to add leagues after a few seasons other than using the wizard, and if not, why is the Advanced Mode button greyed out using the wizard?

I've got a league that ran for 8 years before I decided to add a Canadian League, however, I could only do it through the wizard without advanced mode available. Therefore, I couldn't adjust financials until after and I couldn't set player creation modifiers until after. I couldn't even make it an International League (not Major League) until after, which meant I had to delete all players and regenerate.

What's up with that?

Okay, this sucks. How can I create/add a league and mess with modifiers and financials before players are created, but after I've already played several years with other leagues?

and yes, I can redo the fictional contracts after adjusting financials, but the players are too good, due to the creation modifiers being MLB-equivalents. I can't delete the players without them going to the free-agent pool first, which combines them with every other free agent. With it being the offseason, there's a lot of good players already in free agency, so I can't delete all free agents, either.

You can add a league by importing a template.

With players?

That's lame. I tend to think if the Advanced Mode button isn't greyed out, my problem is solved.

Mac version, btw. Tried adding league just after playoffs ended, on 1/1 and first day of preseason with same problems.

I read a tip elsewhere (but have not tried myself yet) that after creating the league you can limit FAs such that they are not allowed to enter or leave the league from outside. This effectively means that the players are released into a pool that is for that league only. From there they can be deleted.

Maybe that is worth a shot?

I too would like to be able to create leagues in advanced mode after game creation, but if the above works, I think I can work around any issues.

hmm... I'll try that but I'd imagine I'd have to do it for all leagues first. Just because my Canadian League FAs can't leave doesn't mean other league's FAs can't come to Canada.

In the screenshots in the manual there is both an option for 'Allow free agents from other leagues' and 'Allow free agents to leave league'.

I imagine checking both those options isolates the league FA pool entirely (i.e., players form other leagues won't be able to enter that league even by FA)

Let me know how it goes. I've been hoping this works, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Can you not make a template with no players?

Also, a template would allow you to set the player creation modifiers.

A quick test shows that seems to work, but you gotta remember to turn off those options in all of your current leagues before creating the new one, and this is only available as an option in the preseason.

I'm gonna check this, too. Seems to make sense.

Beyond those "workarounds," I'd be interested to know what the thinking is behind not allowing Advanced Mode in league creation in an already-established game.
