Market Size Experiment
I started this in version 9. When version 10 came out, I started from scratch. The experiment: 2 leagues, 6 teams each start in 1900. All market sizes were set to zero in the first year. There were two goals or problems I wanted to solve. One, would salary demands scale down to the finances of the league, or would a lot of free agents go unsigned? Two, would market sizes increase over the years? And if so, how?
Findings: one, salary demands scaled to the finaces of the league. Free agents usually found a team that could afford thier new demands.
two, the original six teams - because I epxanded every ten years - markets sizes increased to these sizes by 1949.
Northern League: 4,5,0,3,2,0
Southern League: 5,5,5,3,7,5
I cannot explain the disparity in sizes. One team in this list won 12 pennants and 3 world series in 15 years and only increased from 0 to 2.
Anyway, I thought it was interesting.
