Rules regarding suspended players and active roster

what is the deal with suspended players and the active roster? I started playing a 2009 Phillies season and J.C. Romero is suspended for 50 games (as in real life). Do I have to eat that roster spot or can I place him somewhere to call up another player? I tried demoting him but he refused and releasing him would cost my 12 million dollars. What can I do as a GM?

Hmm...i was trying to think of a workaround for this.
I guess you could designate him for assignment but you'd be risking another team claiming him off waivers. This would allow you to call someone up.
*I'm not sure if this would work because I don't have the game in front of me right now...but maybe you could designate him for assignment repeatedly until his suspension is over, every ten days you'd have to re-activate him and re-designate him for assignment.

Nevermind, I re-read it and the problem is the refusal. Let me think about this....

You could edit him to have a 50 day cold and be on the DL.

There are suspended lists that don't take a roster spot....

As the above post states, the solution seems to be giving him a cold...

seems like a issue for a patch. Players with long-term suspensions need a roster solution in this game other than editing. But... Flu it is for 47 more games
